Help with network rendering
Hi guys,
I'm following the tut found here:
http://www.indigorenderer.com/documenta ... g-tutorial
However I haven't succeeded on getting the slave computers to "talk" to the master. My setup is as follows:
-1 manager computer: Windows 10 PC. Core I7 4770K @3.5 Ghz 32GB RAM @1600MHz
-1 network slave: Imac 27" Core I5 @3.2GHz/ 16GB RAM
-1 network slave: Macbook Pro 15.6" Retina Core I7 @2.5 GHz/ 16GB RAM
The hostname and the workgroup are properly setup on all computers. The network is communicating fine sharing files to/from each and every computer (win-to-mac /mac-to-win).
I'm attaching a screenshot of the error reported when I start the network slave. It says it failed to resolve the hostname "design02" but that's the one set everywhere. Error code=8.
Thanks in advance for any help
regards,
Alvaro

Re: Help with network rendering
Didn't network render on mac since ages but never had this problem. Are you sure you named the slave everywhere correctly? To be sure you could also allow all permissions of the library indigo folder and indigo program folder to full access plus allow file sharing for these folders in the system sharing panel.

Re: Help with network rendering
I did network rendering without problems from my Win Master and adding some Mac slaves.
So it is possible and should work...
The Error Code 8 can be explained by the Devs best I think.
(btw dear devs: Error codes should be always explained directly in th error message as much as possible!)

Re: Help with network rendering
Thanks for replying guys.
I'll double-check names and permissions everywhere. I agree there should be no problem setting up a render farm between different OSs. And yup, error codes should be included with Índigo's documentation.
Regards,
Alvaro

Re: Help with network rendering
Hi,
I made a new build with a couple of changes, please try it: http://downloads.indigorenderer.com/dis ... 3.8.30.dmg
* Better error messages for DNS resolution on OS X and Linux, tweaked DNS resolution a little.

Re: Help with network rendering
Did this ever get resolved ?
I've run int a similar problem.
My main machine is an iMac (OS X 10.11.2) and the two slaves are PCs with Win10.
All are connected per WiFi to a relatively new Airport Time capsule.
The slaves don't find the master and the master does not show any slaves.
I am wondering if this has to do with the fact that I am not running Indigo from an admin account on my master machine.

Re: Help with network rendering
You need to start the network clients on the slave machines.
Re: Help with network rendering
I've tried that already. Even as admin.

Re: Help with network rendering
Any firewalls active?
Re: Help with network rendering
I have figured out part of the problem. The node licenses are Indigo version 2.xx These would need to be updated to Indigo 3.xx
At the moment it looks like that's a paid upgrade and thats not going to happen.

Re: Help with network rendering
Shouldn't be with a lifetime license I think. I'm sure they'll sort it out for you, but I think some of the devs might be away for a few days.
Re: Help with network rendering
Hi OscarJ thanks for the help!
I am sure they could sort this out. They would not have to though if this would work
I can only see that the node version needs to be updated on the slave machine. There I can click on the only user interface element, the big blue button labeled "Upgrade to 3.0".
This brings up the browser on the slave machine with a web page that instructs me to visit my private Indigo order page. It says I can then click the "Buy Now" button in the "Upgrade to Indigo 3" section.
Ok, so I walk back to my main machine, search and find the mail agin and click on that link again.
And, indicative of the whole process, there is no "Upgrade to Indigo 3" section, thus there is no "Buy now" button. So I have to admit being a bit irritated at the moment.

Re: Help with network rendering
Ok. Ono added 2 Indigo 3 Node Licenses, which I registered and verified.
However, I can still not see these in the network panel in Indigo on the master.
When I start he slaves I get the message as shown in the screen shot on both slave machines.
The Firewall is disabled on both slaves. I've tried to:
1. Start Indigo and start render slave, without starting the Indigo Network Client prior to that
2. "" "" with the starting the Indigo Network Client
3. "" "" with installing the Automatic Render client
I can ping both machines from the master and I can ping the master from both machines using either the local host name or the IP address.
I am by no means an beginner if it comes to networking and maintain a open source software library that allows micro-controllers to discover and service Bonjour services.
However, I have no idea about the underlying mechanisms how Indigo does it's networking. There is no code, no documentation that allows trouble shooting, and the software does not provide any appreciable level of information to diagnose the problem.
I find that very frustrating!
