Exporting issues

Post by Benzamen Vox » Mon Jul 15, 2013 1:49 pm

I am trying to import a scene from cg-society for a rendering competition
yet i cant import the obj file, as blender crashes when i attempt this

i am asking this on here because i had to change to 2.64 to get indigo

can i get a 2.46-2.68 version to make this compatible?

would this help?

what else can i do?

I doubt that would make a difference. The change logs for the new Blender version don't indicate any changes to the OBJ importer.

Hi Benzamen, can we know more about your computer ? Could it be an issue with insufficient RAM ?

it was crashing because the competition scene had way too many vertices and faces on the bed and curtains
about 400 per object, which my system cant process in a healthy manner, whatever program the rendering competition scene was made in had some type of low poly subdivision, in which blender could only interpret as single faces per subdivision

just one curtain had an uncountable amount of faces

What you show in the screenshot looks like a lot more than 400 per object.
400 is in fact very little and would need a couple of catmull clark subdivision. There is possibly something wrong with that imported geometry that you may have to clean up.

If you could provide a link to that competition scene I can look at it later today and check out if it works on my computer.
