Indigo RT - render mode and GPU

Post by cotty » Thu Nov 08, 2012 10:44 am

Is there a reason why I can't change the render mode in Indigo RT? (Different ones in Skindigo don't change it in Indigo, it is always grayed out)

Is there something changed so that my GPU isn't recognized anymore?

Indigo RT 3.4.16
GeForce GTX 560 SE (driver-version 306.97)

I've done 4-5 reeboots and the GPU is back (?) in the Indigo window. Because it is back, the checkbox to enable the usage of the GPU is back too and if I deselect it, I can change the render mode. Is the disabled dropdown list of the render mode in the case of no GPU available a bug?

Hmmm, since you have the GPU driver up to date, I'm not sure what the problem could be. Are you perhaps running through Remote Desktop?

That is almost certainly a bug.

Yes, but I am shure that I have used Indigo remote with remote desktop?

I've checked this:
- No GPU available, checked GPU usage in Skindigo, the drop down list kepps inactive after stopped rendering
- No GPU, GPU checkbox disabled (Skindigo), I'm able to change the drop down list after stopped rendering

So, yes, it seams to be an error...

Hi,

Just wanted to post a stumbling block I came across a few days ago: I use a different machine for rendering that I connect to via RDP (Remote Desktop).

Doing that, blender and indigo state that there is no gpu. That had me going gonzo for a few days with nvidia and drivers.

Turns out the solution is easy: the RDP session gets started via a service, and that service doesn't 'get' the drivers from the video card.

Solution: use a different tool like Tightvnc, since it gets a real / whole session with the whole shebang of graphics drivers and small things like cuda capability.
