Hi,

I need help because i try for several months to reproduce the material of the kitchen worktop. (slate)
I tried in vain with photoshop and indigo.
I enclose a picture of it and hope someone will help me because I don't know what to do.
Thank you in advance...

Gnifrus.

Not bad, I think one of the main things is the texture curving around the edge of the object. Slate is kind of stacked layers so the edge should have a different "grain"

Maybe some slight colour variation would work too ref: http://www.worldofstock.com/slides/BGT2285.jpg

Are you attemtping a 'real' slate worktop or one of those compressed wood worktops with a slate-like material?

If the latter then I think what you have doesn't look too bad.

If the former then I agree with enslaver

Hello !
Thanks for your response.
The picture enclosed is a real picture and not a render of Blender with Indigo.
I have not managed to make a material approximating this photo.

Hahaaa, that's hilarious. We're starting to criticize real things for not being real enough.

Only shows how good we have come expect Indigo renders to be I reckon ;-)

I agree with Tom.

Anyway, Gnifrus, it may help to know what specifically you are having problems with when setting up this material.
It seems to me that what you need for this manufactured material is a decent bump map and perhaps a nice diffuse (color) map.

You could just use Blenders procedural shaders and render/bake the texture channel into an image, that you then can use as a bump/color map.

Thank tou !
I had not thought about using Blenders procedural shaders !!! :D
I don't know if i will succeed but i'm very happy to have a new solution !

Thanks !

Gnifrus.

Haha... what. It still doesn't look like real to me... lol, reminds me of that "Fake or photo" challenge Autodesk has on their site.

If you want to reproduce that kind of slate in the picture procedural would be a good way to go.
