Re: My second living-room...
It's very nice, but the room feels "empty", I feel there's too much unused space, oh and that warhol poster on the floor somewhat out of place, "nail" it on a wall somewhere
benn hired a mercenary to kill my sig...
Re: My second living-room...
Very nice render - is this sketchup? My only critique is that the layout doesn't feel very real. The couch doesn't face the tv and the ottoman isn't close enough - it feels like someone randomly threw the furniture into the place.
But - when your only critique on a CG-scene is that it looks like a photo of a badly arranged room - then I think you're doing ok. ;D

Re: My second living-room...
Many thanks for your comms!
@mwesch
Thanks!
Unfortunately I won't be able to share any objects at the moment - to be totally honest I'm working hard so one day I can work full-time in CG imagery, so for the moment I'm keeping all my stuff for myself. As you can imagine (especially for a beginner like me) it takes hours of work to model something. BUT if you really want to have such a sofa in one of your models, please do not hesitate to post a WIP, and I'll be glad to give you some tips on how to work on your model and improve it - promised!

Hi!
In terms of furniture, I actually intended it to be empty-ish... I've done some research in some architectural magazines, and the current way of furbishing a room is often in an "empty" way : very few pieces of furniture. Well, as you probably know, we're in an era of "minimalistic art"...
The aim here was to try and get something close to that minimalistic feel.
But - as an "arty" friend of mine advised me - what could indeed greatly improve this scene would be a large piece of furniture or piece of art or plant, instead of the tiny plant in the corner.
(by the way benn: it was made with Blender)
I have 2 questions, though :
Regarding the floor, I used
1.65 IOR
500,000 exponent value
and in the "B" value of my spec map I left it to default (10,000)
These values seem to me to be already quite high, but I still didn't quite get the "polished" effect I wanted...
1) Do you think I should push the exponent value all the way to 1.000.000 to get that polished effect?
2) And what's the effect of the "B" spec map value? Does pushing it to higher values make the model more shiny, or does it have some other effect?
Well... in any case I'm really glad about your comms, they help keeping me going further in my work and improve little by little.
Many many thanks again!

Re: My second living-room...
I quite the feeling of space.
My critique is where is the glass in the windows? No furniture is reflected or anything. Gives a very open and unnatural feel for me.
They seem so clear as to not have any glass in. If you have got glass there maybe either add a very slight dirt map? or arrange something in the room to reflect in the glass?.
Like Ben said these kind of comments are just nit-picking really

Thanks for your comms!
Yes you're right, no glass at all in this pic...
I'm going to keep working on that one:
- add windows (ghost-glass mat from the MatDB?)
- change the small plant in the corner to something bigger.
By the way, how do add a dirt map?
Do you blend two mats? (on one hand the glass mat, and on the other hand a dirt picture)
