DVD player + Tuner
DVD player + Tuner
Hi everyone!
Here is my latest...
I know there's a problem with the "E" in "Kenwood" (I need to subdivide the "E" so that the light can reflect on it properly).
Could you help me with the following:
I wanted to use as a texture only the writings ("power", "volume", "setup", etc). That is to say: leaving the background as Zero Alpha in Photoshop, then applying it onto my model (which already has an nkData mat), so that only the bits of text are used, and not the background on which the text is written.
But I didn't achieve to do so...
If I work on the original picture, deleting everything but the writings, I can't use the background as Zero Alpha - Indigo translates it as white background (I think), and thus I can't use the nkData material...
So... I had to actually MODEL each bit of text, thus adding many many many vertices to my model...
Any idea on this one?
(I hope you understand my problem)
Simply put: how can I apply text onto a material, without havign to model it...
Thanks for your comms and answers!!!

Nice modelling. I really like the brushed aluminium material.
Only crits are it's so clean and perfect!

Yep, that's what I think too!!!Doug Armand wrote:it's so clean and perfect!
I think it mainly comes from the fact that there aren't any other objects in my scene...
Regarding the brushed aluminimum mat, it's actually only an "al.nk" mat, with an extremely low IOR (1.01 if I remember well) and very low Exponent too, so the light doesn't "shine" too much on it.

The Logo maybe needs some more love.... seems like smoothing errors tome.
Locking forward to some proper Light Stage setup or even a Scene you put this baby in

I totally agree with you ZomB - I need a little more work on the Kenwood Logo...
Indeed, it's gonna be part of a whole scene.
Working on a "Home Cinema room", which will be the first "proper" room I model.
I've already modelled 2 lamps and a TV table, and now working on a Le Corbusier sofa etc...
I'll post it as soon as it's finished of course!
Any idea regarding my "text" problem? (see above)
Thanks!

Re: DVD player + Tuner
For the text, you probably want to create a blend material, with 2 children: a metal (nk), and a diffuse/phong black material. Then you using the writing as a greyscale texture as the blend map.
Re: DVD player + Tuner
Thanks, I'll try that!!!

Re: DVD player + Tuner
Additionally use the 'step' blend option for the blend texture, it will allow to use a much lower resolution map while preserving sharp text edges.
Hey that's great madcoo !
edit: modifying the phong ior when using nk material has no effect since nk files are to define the material ior Exponent is the one tweakable parameter.

...I'm feeling very dumb now!!!
Thaaaanks!Hey that's great madcoo !
I'll try your "step" blend technique as well!
Many thanks again!

Looks realy nice, nothing to add since the others have covered it all
Great work

Re: DVD player + Tuner
I ould go for a vector logo that gets extruded, so you have a real 3D beveled Logo for close ups....

How did you do the display? Is it a phong combined with a diffuse?

He doesn't mean the kennwood logo but instead the button texts ^^ @ZomB
Re: DVD player + Tuner
Hi all!
Sorry I didn't reply any earlier, but I've got problems accessing the Indigo Forum at work...
I actually started from basic squares to do the logo, doing many extrudes (on a 2D plan). Then when I had the shapes right, I extruded them to get a 3D logo.
Maybe I should have started from Bezier Curves (I use Blender) to get smoother and more accurate shapes? Is this what you mean by "a vector logo"?
-> I had to "cheat" on that one...
I used a Matt material.

I actually typed each bit of text, then converted it into a mesh, then I only very slightly extruded the letters, just enough so they don't get mixed with the NkMat and mesh, if you see what I mean.neo0. wrote:How did you do the display? Is it a phong combined with a diffuse?

Yes, sounds right, I'm on C4D so I don't know much about "Blender Language"madcoo wrote:Maybe I should have started from Bezier Curves (I use Blender) to get smoother and more accurate shapes? Is this what you mean by "a vector logo"?
