Here is a new render, going to setup a exr map soon so it has something to reflect, it's looking to dull now.
And i will tone down the scratches

screen looks much better now :)

Yeah the scratches were perhaps a wee bit on the extreme side  assuming your scratch map is using the full black to white range available set your B value (or high level exporter equivalent) on the bump texture down to something like 0.0001. This of course assumes you are modeling to correct scale.

At the moment you have the scratches at uniform depth right up to the top edge of the chrome casing whereas you are much more likely to get scratching around the curved edge and the underside from general use so tone down scratching as you come up from the rounded edge. If you look at the last 2 pages of my rings WIP thread there is some discussion there on scratch mapping and an example of the map I used for the final rings render. But to summarize I built a uniform scratch map with various layers of scratching. Basically as the frequency of scratching increases I have reduced the scratch intensity (made whiter) and around the inside of the ring where the rubbing of the skin naturally polishes I used a large soft white brush to really shallow out the scratches.

As for the chrome the only reason it looks "flat" is that you aren't picking up any reflections. So you need more detail in the surface the chrome is sitting on or position lights/camera to better grab reflections.

Hope that helps...the few changes you've made thus far have already made a world of difference :)

Here try this. I just cropped and modified my rings scratch map for you and attached it below but if you look at this image you can see how I would use it from a UV mapping perspective. Red is the edge of the chrome casing (where it meets the plastic front bezel), yellow area should be where the sides go, and green is the underside. The edge of yellow/green would be centered on the bevel between sides and underside....make sense? ...Think of it like turning your player upside down and then hitting it with a sledge hammer to pancake the chrome backing flat

Anyway this might give you something to start working from anyway :)

using such a scratch map as Exponent Map results sometimes in a better and softer image, just give it a try :)

Thanks again WytRaven :)
Going to work on the suggestions now, and til nex time i do know what a uv map is, i was just going to test to see if i could get some chrome going without starting with the scratches. But nice way of explaining it tough :)
ZomB.
I did use exponent but it was looking to soft. I may try that again soon :)

Bump map is too strong, has too low res and scratches are too fat. :P
Try with exponent map instead.

This scene is going to make me mad :?
I have never had so much problem with a single scene.
Well still working on it, trying to use it as a exponent map now, without the bump this time.

Using exponent map dosnt work at all, since it only reflects the floor. You wont see any diffrence.
Hopefully i can work something out :)
