I agree with kram and suvakas about colours output; reinhard tm doesn't serve your scene well (lack of contrast, mid tones washed a bit), camera is best (see my tip on how in today's wip I posted if you have problems with other tm schemes than reinhard).

Oh, thanks that you agree with me, though it was Kosmo and suv who said something about the colour ;) My 2ct where "doesn't feel like a kitchen counter", due to tile-size and due to lack of a visible end...

For context, I think one of those old manual egg beaters would look pretty cool. maybe add the stuff that would be used to make the cheesecake, some nice ceramic bowls, a spatula, that kind of thing.

I would add a backsplash to give the impression that it is a counter rather than an expanse of floor. A front edge might also help.

Haven't had a chance to work on this for a while, but I tried another variation and liked the way it came out. A little postpro in Gimp to correct the color issue I was having.

Oh and maybe, the chocolate is a bit too reflective.... too high IoR or rather too high Exponent... (or maybe both)

Do use use image maps from google or do create everything by hand in photoshop? What did you use for lighting, out of curiosity?

I used photos as a reference. Most of these I found via google. Then I created image maps by hand using these reference photos. For lighting, I used the the same env map that BbB used for the pastry scene.
