"villa lake side" interiors

Post by drBouvierLeduc » Sun Feb 10, 2008 10:41 pm

Hi,
I found some nice ref pics of a villa called "villa lake side", with blueprints and all.
So I'm giving it a go. Here are some early wip renders. For the moment the rooms are almost empty, I'm adding stuff at the moment.
c&c always welcomed !

Very nice stuff :) can't wait to see the progress :D
though, I kinda think, parts of the parquet came out a bit greenish...
(Whenever it's shadowed, it seems... - or sunlit...)

Geez! Looking fantastic already. I'm very much looking forward to this.
What machine are you using to render this? Looks like the kind of scene that would bring my quad ot its knees!

Cool, a word from the interiors-master !
I'm using a "simple" dual-core wich is rather old already. That's typically the kind of scene that takes ages to clear, I'm afraid the final renders will have to bake for 1 or 2 days each.

I was wondering, do you know any website that you use for reference for interiors stuff ? I'd like to give a try to a more "modern" one when this project is finished (sorry for the poor english synthax... it's sunday...)

Hey Docteur. That's definitely a great scene in the making.

For reference, I quite like to use furniture companies, because their interiors tend to be quite stylised - a bit less realistic but more elegant.

The Huelsta site has fantastic hi-res ref images:

I really like Boffi for kitchens and bathrooms:

Fritz Hansen also has really good stuff, and some 3D models of their furniture too:

* - I was wondering, what's written in the book?

The more I look at them the more I like them. I think there's a lot people can learn from your images. Like 1) The accurate modeling of things that are rarely given enough attention, like windows and steps, 2) the fact you've been careful not to repeat the placement of the wood texture on your bookshelves, 3) the subtle use of exponent maps on your parquet, 4) the way you avoided perspective distorsion on your vertical lines...

I looked at your reference, damn your close to the original! I really like your renders pal! The modeling is really good and the materials are spot on! Indigo completes it :)

The book is great! Though my books always slide of my chair when they lay like so :). Maybe yours don't but imo it'd be better if it was put just a bit more on the top of the chair.

Anxious to see where this leads!

The book is amazing, everything else so far too :) You have a somewhat different way of framing up a scene from most others I think, looks great. I think BbB takes much more drastic angles, but both works fine :)
I like your use of the medium format image size. Should give it a try too, though I'm a CinemaScope fan :D

The only criticism I have is the color tint. It's all so greenish, somehow. Maybe try a camera response file? I like Gold-100CD alot, though Kodachrome (I think) looks cool too.

Are you going to do the whole villa?

How long have you been rendering these pictures?

I must say that the lighting on that last one (dim outside light with the lamp lit) is simply stunning. The scene itself could use some interest, but the lighting... phew! (Oh, and I like the book, too. Great model.)
