@noyb
Try to use ResetXform (under Utilities panel) on the logo. Sometimes when importing from external programs Max messes up the model's origin point. ResetXform may help.

All I changed in this one was the studio plane texture, I think it looks more dramatic :)

I've been messing around with some things while the last one was rendering...

I fixed the logo (your suggestion was just what I needed, suvakas - thanks very much; not sure why this one illuded me)

I also brought down the exponent on the chrome material, hoping that it will reduce the high contrast aliasing without having to increase the super_sample_factor... wish me luck.

Barring no more suggestions, I think this is close to finished - I'll set a bigger render to start tonight.
I'll start working on rendering the back tomorrow (question: is a diffuse transmitter what I should use for the lcd display? I've never used this before)

Sebastian, next time I start max, I'll see what I can do about the screenshot and settings.

Here's a quick update on the logo - before/after

Very nice. Hyper-real

Yes, diffuse transmitter if you put a meshlight plane behind it.
Otherwise textured emitter.

Textured emitter is better, I guess...

I think this will be my final for this one - I may do the back at some later date. I have some minor issues that could be better, but I want to start something new - this was just a test scene anyway, not really a portfolio piece. Comments, questions, and death threats are always welcome...

Thanks to all that have helped, I like forums with people who are helpful :)

Hey noyb...

for my taste you shouldn't hide your details by keeping this image that dark,
also the white light to the right side is totally overblown...
Give Violet a try to tonemap your igi file, and do some fine tuning in your 2D App of choise in the end...
But so far a wonderful picture dude!!!

Yeah, I guess you're right - I've just felt rather uninspired lately.
Perhaps I'll post this in the final works section.

Thanks for the comments :)

Is anybody interested in various studio setups? I've been thinking about writing a tutorial.
