Hasselblad 503cwd

Post by noyb » Mon Dec 31, 2007 2:21 pm

This is a re-render of a quick model that I did with mentalray several months ago. I figured a render of a camera should be more photo realistic.

Pretty far from finished - lots of minor issues to fix (smoothing & model export issues - the logo is out of place for some reason)
The bump on the camera body needs much more work

I'm not sure where I want to go with this - perhaps a scene of a photo studio...

Here's my progress so far - 1.0.3 - no exporter.

The xml setup - materials/camera and such. I didn't model it by xml code if that's what you're thinking - model is a 3ds file.

aww common!

Anyone can model that by XML, as simple as a cube :P

Anyway, nice render, I love Hasselblads, best f***ing camera in the world

Maybe wanna try lowering your lights a bit?

My light setup is temporary, I'm just trying to work out model and texture issues at the moment - I'll lower the tonemapping a bit on the next one

Thanks for the comments

Still some things to do to this before I start working on the studio scene to show off the digital back...
-The Hasselblad and 503cwd logos are not visible (to be honest, I'm not sure if they are even there - you can see that the logo is offset in the first render, no idea why)
-The lighting causes the reflections to be a bit too high contrast - I'll probably add a white(ish) plane for the chrome to reflect to bring down the white/black contrast
-The bump still isn't even close (this is the first time I've used bump in indigo)

Any tips (especially with the bump on the camera body) are greatly appreciated.

I actually like the highlights!
For the bumpmap: which b-value are you using? try to divide it by 10, as a starting point...

Bump is a bit better - logo still isn't showing up though

Used camera tonemapping on this one

You're on Maya, right ?

Objects that don't display or are in the wrong place are usually to do with locked transforms, or complex parenting/constraint setups.

Try unlocking, and exporting again.

Looks really fantastic, BTW :)
My dad has one of these with the digital back... very very nice camera

I actually really like the MR version... Test3 is also nice, the the red writing on the lens is quite "hot" or saturated.

Thanks for the comments  (couldn't find an appropriate emoticon)

Actually, I use Autodesk Inventor and 3ds max.
I shouldn't have any constraints or anything applied to the mesh, I'll do some experimenting and see what happens.
Does your dad have the 503cwd or another in the 500 series. I've only seen one of these (other than pics on the net) - I saw it and went home to model one :).
I've done the digital back too; after I finish this, I'll try a scene like the brochure.

I think you're right Phr0stByte, I need to add more green to the text.
Perhaps I'll try a different background and see if it comes out better.

Oh, and thanks for the help on the bump Kram1032
