Tea party (final)

Post by BbB » Wed Dec 05, 2007 8:26 pm

Hi Guys. I was playing with materials yday and came up with this. The teapot and cups were both modeled in Blender. I've got some UV mapping problem on the teapot which I'm trying to fix. Strangely enough, the vertical line does not show in the Blender viewport. Only in Indigo.

Wonderful models, fantastic stone texture. Are the models bumpmapped to look uneven or are they modeled that way? Looks fantastic anyway.

Hi, thanks. Yes, there is a procedural cloud bump map on the models to give them a slight handmade feel. That's also why I'm getting this annoying UV mapping problem on the teapot. Glad you like it.

Hi Ono.
This was 1.0.3.
Why do you ask?

EDIT: If it's about the UV mapping problem, I think I found what caused it. The teapot has one level of subdivision, but I didn't apply the modifier in Blender. Sometimes, this screws up the UVs slightly. I'm now rendering a version with the modifier applied and it seems better, though it's hard to tell for sure before the image has converged.

Because I changed the texture tiling code a little in v1.0.4. Perhaps it will fix your seam.

I'll try 1.0.4 then. Cheers.

EDIT: This is not a tiling texture but a baked procedural, custom-made for each object. Really I think the problem is more with Blender (or even possibly with me

It does have a leather look to it, and the vertical line is the seam of the leather, :)

I must say that marble is just tremendous. Does it have sss applied? Is the bump map a tangent space normal map? It just looks too real, dood! Sweet!

Hi there. The stone was a sheer stroke of luck. Believe it or not, it has no bump map and no SSS. Just the diffuse map plugged into the exponent channel and with the gamma raised to 3. I've been playing with the exponent slot lately and I'm amazed at how much you can do without bump. And it speeds the render too (I think).

Hi guys. A few changes in this image. First of all, I wanted to see whether I could model a leather cushion in Blender without using the sculpt tool. The answer is: kind of, as long as the vertices are aligned with the direction the folds would take. So this requires a good reference image. Right now the pillow has massive UV mapping issues (my fault, not indigo's) which is why I'm only showing a close up (the sides of the cushion are the main problems).

I've also fixed the tiling issue on the teapot's bump map, only to see another "hole" appear at the top rim. This is definitely a Blender problem, which I'll have to fix before cooking the final image.

I've corrected the wrong scale in the first image, which among other things means my tea now renders as tea and no longer as coffee.

That pretty much sums it up
