Assorted table trinkets (updated 25.11)

Post by BbB » Tue Nov 20, 2007 8:11 pm

This is a collection of objects I've done in Blender to help me populate future interiors faster. I'll use it as a repository and add more stuff from time to time. Any suggestion welcome (I, personally, would like some silverware). I've used the Parisian apartment as backdrop and the KitchenProbe EXR for lighting. Below a detail from the original render (six hours at 2800x1400), and another angle, using an evermotion tree in the background (Thanks Marcofly). Suggestions, additions, comments and thoughts all welcome...

as always... A-Class composition... the only crit is for the peppers exponent which seems to me too low and the table curtain texture which, well you know, could be better with mpd due to the presence on too much wrinkles.(i'll give a chance to an ancient cream white table top)

btw...right sided warm light is always the best touch.

Thanks for providing such images.

Riccardo.

Thanks Riccardo. I think you're right there about the peppers. I take your point too about the tablecloth. I've got another texture somewhere I think I could use for this. White linen would be better given the style of the interior. I want to redo the table cloth anyway with a better cloth simulation. I'll keep going back to that piece in the next couple all days so thanks for your comments.

Wow, BbB!
About the paprika, i'm not sure it needs a higher exp, Riccardo.. look at this pic, the only thing i would add is SSS, and maybe some bump, to make the surface slightly uneven..

Top composition and lighting!!

ciao!

Interesting... Maybe SSS is what's missing. I'm not sure how SSS behaves with HDR. It could be quite slow...

Hey Wyt. Don't say that. First of all, this took a lot longer than five minutes, second of all, it's not really modeling but just spinning profiles (a small dog could do it). Thirdly, I'd pay a large sum of money to be able to whip up screws and technical parts like you do. By the way, where is this tut you promised us. I can't wait any longer!

Lol BbB the tut is on my list of things to do, right now my machine is beating away on Schott Glass previews (101 of them to be precise) and there are a few days yet left in that. As much as I am constantly amazed by Linux and it's ability to load balance I think even it would choke if I tried to do realtime screen capping with indigo running full pelt in the background ;)

Really nice pic, I agree with the others you need SSS on the fruit and veggies they look fake-tacular and the tablecloth being just plain horrible in color and texture. Nothing you can't handle from what I've seen :D

New tablecloth and SSS, yep, that should be doable
Let's see...

Looks great, so far, but as said above, SSS is missing :)

don't forget to model the inner paprika, as it's not very thick-walled ;) there are large hollow parts which might completely change the optical appearance with SSS ;) (tomatoes should be easier, as they're "full")

Woa!!! Very very good :)

but i think the PIMENTÃO (green, yellow and red) and the TOMATO need bit more phong http://www.salamultimidia.com.br/blog/w ... tao-st.JPG

You amaze me again and again and again BbB. Great idea actually, creating an object collection. I could need a room collection for my objects *hehe* My simple "studio" setup just isn't that great, especially for reflections.

Hi Ortega,
There's been something of a debate here as to how much exponent the pepper needs. I think the appearance could depend a lot on the lighting, which seems pretty focused and sharp in your image.

Thanks for the kind words. If you're using Blender, I could share this room setting. It's a pretty low-poly scene and the walls can be moved around as you please. Just let me know.

Ok, here's the latest version. I've changed the texture for the tablecloth and also remodelled it from scratch using new softbody settings.
I'm using a new texture for the book's pages, which I did yesterday (the previous one used a very small web image).
There is now SSS on the yellow pepper and both tomatoes, but I can't see much difference apart from slightly darker, duller materials. My tests with meshlights looked ok, though, so I assume this has to do with HDR illumination. Perhaps the lighting is just too diffuse... Will keep trying other settings (These are blended phong and SSS mats with about 75% SSS).
Kram: I saw your message too late about modeling a void inside the pepper. That could make a big difference. I'll try this tonight.
