Re: Simple Renderings Thread

Post by munkey » Sun Mar 13, 2011 7:01 am

Zdravím, hello.

Im trying to render some scenes, some look good, but some not at all... So I just would like to ask for some advices. I use Indigo and SkIndigo for some time, but Im still quite amateur. This way, maybe others could learn something new.

For example, I attach image of my last scene. I have some issues...
- even after almost 3 hours, its quite noisy, why is that?
- walls don't look very good... any tips for it?
- glass in windows & doors also doesn't look very real - is it because of Thin Glass (double)?
- door & window frames - also nothing special, it's just white color with Shiny Plastic preset
- there are white dots in mirror
- any other ideas to make it look better?

Thanks for any tips.

Use Exit Portals to speed up rendering a lot!

How about some bump on them, maybe some ISL based noise. Also try using phong instead of diffuse with IOR of 1.05 and exponent of 8

Thin Glass is a fake, give real glass a chance...
munkey wrote:- there are white dots in mirror
did you use phong with high IOR as a mirror? that creates such dots in that extreme scenarios, use specular material for this. Also PT rendermode may cause such Fireflies, best way to kill em: use high(er) SuperSampling value, it costs "only" extra RAM but no speed!

Try to use exponent maps for your phong materials to get some alteration in reflectance of the material,

hcpiter, very nice flower rendering! You put my rendering to shame!

SaphireS, nice flower! I should really try the Blitz! function someday soon.

Awesome as always
There's something weird with the corners though, on the bottom right, the wood seems to float over the floor
(not sure if that comes from the lack of shadow or reflection)

Seems to be a wall mounted system, its more dandy than 08/15 floor based modules :D

This thread is looking more like a gallery lately, beautiful work guys :)

@ENSALVER: thanks for sharing your ranch renders, a pleasure to watch, especially the underwater pics. Cool to see what's possible with indigo, computer-power and a great artist! Also: Colddays does not only look like a photo, but you really catch that certain mood there. Top-notch work, b/w is my favorite.

@hcpiter: the best grass/flower/instanced(?)/particle(?) render I have seen in this forums. Looks fresh and alive, I can almost smell the summer again. Awesome!

@dcm: you seem to miss the point of this "Simple renderings thread" frequently. But please don't stop posting. As suvakas said, the light (the idea) of the other room makes this one really interesting. Makes you wanna go in there and open that gooddamn door!

@SaphireS: nice image, beautiful colors, and awesome signature!

-->Polinalkrimizei--> Thanks =)

Now for something more colourful, still a WIP, but a WIP that might never get finished. I had too much fun playing with colours etc. No editing.
