Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Hi guys, long time. Here's another old scene re-rendered:
Enjoying Indigo every time a bit more
Ps. Finally getting a grasp of DOF.

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Pretty good, but needs better tonemapping and colour grading. Looks like reinhard to me?

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Thanks for commenting Oscar
Nope, It's camera tonemapping, Reinhard makes it too reddish, and yup, I'm trying to learn about better tonemapping but it's no easy task.
cheers!
Alvaro
Edit:
I just played with the image a bit in PS and it shifts it a bit towards a violet tone when "white balancing" it.
How do you know from within Indigo what the correct color/contrast is? Is it possible to get an optimum image straight out of Indigo or do you always have to postpro them?

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
There's a slight greenish tint to the whole image. If you try the pick white point tool and sample one of the white walls, that should improve that.
What camera type are you using? The afgapan apx ones are usually nice for interiors with their high dynamic range.

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
I'm using Agfacolor Ultra 050 CD, which indeed makes the image greener. I'm going to try the agfapan 400cd. What is the difference between the "cd" and the "scd" version (besides the "s" that is, lol!)
Where do you find info on which camera models are better for interior/exterior rendering?
thanks a lot for the help Oscar.
regards,
Alvaro

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Your edited version definitely looks a lot better.
Well, technically you can get perfectly balanced interior images out of Indigo by lighting up shadowy areas with softboxes, using the right cameras, white balance etc. but I usually find it easier to achieve in PS.
About camera responses:

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
woooohooooo! thanks a lot for the links Oscar J! I'm gonna read them right away.
Here's a version with the agfapan 400, I just had to decrease the red channel a bit in postpro.
Thanks for commenting and for all the help.
Question: Oscar, what modeling application do you use?

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
No problem!
These days I use Autodesk Alias as much as I can for modelling, but the "mothership" is still Blender, which is what I use together with Indigo.
Afgapan 400 has quite low contrast, as we can see. But that's the good thing about it - it has the realistic response of the camera tonemapping, but rarely loses any detail in shadows/highlights thanks to its high dynamic range. Which is ideal for post production.
Even though I'm an archviz noob, I attached my go at some post pro (including psd file). Your image still has a slightly green tint to it, which probably is due to reflected light from the grass, which can be fixed using colour balance. Also the image has a lot of midrange, whereas for those catalogue style images you usually want those brighter. Which I changed using curves. Be careful not to burn out the whites outside too much though.
