Simple Renderings Thread

StompinTom, Godzilla: awesome work. Wheat & interior look great.

Cool. Looks like a Katamari.
Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Hey guys !
Well, none of my renders is really impressive, but i think i'm beginning to understand how Indigo works, and i have to say i'm quite amazed at the quality this render engine is able to reach !
And i'm even more mad at myself to have missed the opportunity to buy it while it was half-priced...
So, my first render is the greetings card i have done this year ("en français dans le texte", it means Happy New year 2010... ) and the second one is a test render of the Quinta house i have found on the internet for a competition. (but i don't remember where i grabbed it...)
The UVs for the house are really bad so don't jump on me about it, i already know i have to redo them correctly !
Cheers,
Laurent aka Tartiflette

Ehi The3dcie!
Glad to have you here!
Your first test is really amusing! Very cute! Maybe not photorealistic but it has that maquette feeling I always like!
Congratulations!

Thanks for the kind words !
As for the greetings card, you're right it's not photorealistic in any way, but i do a greetings card every year since 2003 and i try to find something funny and cute to show.
This year i thought i would use blender and Indigo rather than LightWave, which i have used since then.
And i must say i'm glad i did !

Custom AK-47 Kalašnikov. Took about a day 8 hours to model, not finished though. Render took almost 5 hours.
Btw, what are those bright dots? Should they dissapear after longer render or what?

Nice render!
Yes they should begin to go away if you render longer..

Or maybe he should increase his "Super sample factor" ? Once i saw these type of white dots in my glass render and psor suggested me to do so.Godzilla wrote:Nice render!

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Those bright dots on the floor are reflection caustics forming as far as I see it.
Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Locker room. Render took over 7 hours.

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
That seems like an unusually long render time for such a simple scene... Are you using exit portals? what type of CPU do you have?

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 and I don't know what is exit portal Please try to explain thoughGodzilla wrote:That seems like an unusually long render time for such a simple scene... Are you using exit portals? what type of CPU do you have?

Basically "exit portal" is a simple shader which assigns no physical properties to the surface which is applied to: it only acts as an "open window" to the environment.
Let's make it clearer. In you render the sky is all around your geometry. An exit portal placed in the right place could just "erase" all the light of the environment EXCEPTED the one which enters your room through the door. This will really speed up the convergence of your image: you won't have more samples per pixel, as far as I know, but you'll get to have less noise in a same amount of time.
You're wondering how to use such a fantastic tool?
Just model a rectangle outside the window. Make sure that it covers the entire hole you cut in the wall to host the window. Assign a colour to that rectangle, and make it an EXIT PORTAL through your application's plugin. Done!
