Fantastic! Thanks a lot for your time and dedication to share knowledge.

It's great to hear you still use blender, I started this image on this thread:
http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/vie ... =8&t=13792

Vasco gave some ideas on how to implement ies lighting with the mesh emitters but I haven't been able to make them work in this scene. Do you have any idea why they aren't working?

regards,

Alvaro

ps. Thanks for the psd file, I appreciate it!

IES lights not "glowing" enough is unfortunate, here's an old topic on it:

http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/vie ... f=7&t=9208

AFAIK Ono said he'd make the IES lights glow a liiittle bit, uniformly in all directions, though I'm not sure what happened with that.

The only workaround I know about is exactly what you've done. But to hide your IES lights you need to make them invisible to the camera using - you guessed it - the Invisible to camera option under the object settings in blendigo or Indigo.

OK, here's some progress, but first I want to thank you all for all the tips and recommendations.

Changes:
-Added the ies lights (though the spots are barely visible on the floor)
-Added the desk lamp in the reference
-Added the bonsai in the reference

And I tried some color grading following Oscar's recommendations, but there's still a lot to learn :D

regards,
Alvaro

Hi Alvaro (hope I remember your correct name  )!
You're doing a great work here!
I just want to contribute with a couple small tips:
1. Try to work a little more on the door frame: though it's very light, it has lots of details and they should be reproduced to get a realistic image; also, I think the right vertical strut is thicker than the one you're guessing, although it's not clearly visible.
2. Beware that very rarely you can get the same wood type for furnishing and doors, so you should consider changing one with another texture (or at least the colour).
3. The door frame normally hits the gound (or so): leave just 1mm or 2 on the bottom, not to make the corners too flat, but simulate the contact.
4. Even if they seem perfect, the corners of wood tables are always bevelled, so try cutting the corners a little, say 0.5mm in order to achieve a better looking result (it's the kind of things the human eye notices but can't refer to specific faults)
5. I think the bottom of the hung library is wooden too; and I'm also quite sure that the vertical elements of the library show the wood seams in the vertical direction.

I think I'm done, hope I helped!

You sure did! :D

Yup, Alvaro is my name, you remembered it perfectly! Thanks a lot for the comments and all the feedback. I feel honored to get such criticism from someone with your experience. And yup, you're right in all of your observations, I shall put them into practice ;) About the wood texture, they're different but probably the tone is very similar. The one for the floor is like a parquet whereas the one for the furniture is a regular fine wood (pine). I'll try to vary the tones to get a better contrast.

A final version shall come, according to the prophecy of the wooden interior! ;)

grazie mille!

While I work on the "final touches" of the previous render, I started working on this new one. This version is a tonal study, before materials. ;)

regards, and merry xmas to all!

Hi all I have some trouble with lighting. The emitter material for my planes doesn't emit enough light.

Can someone guide me how to make proper material for softbox/plane? :)

Btw don't mind the noise :)

Hey Tramis,

- adjust your EV or Film iso to make the image brighter in general (using camera tonemapping, that is)
- or play with the light layers: assign a different layer to each softbox and then play with brightness/color until you got the right mix
- or work with the materials directly, preferably after you get a feeling of how they should interact with each other, (see step above): directly in Indigo, play with the uniform value after clicking on base emission, if you didn't change the standard settings, and remember that useable values sometimes are CRAZY high.

That is why Blendigo for example works with a "gain exponent" for emitters, and I believe other exporters do the same. Which one are you using?

There really is no thing like a normal softbox material, sorry. The needed intensity of the emitters depends too much on how the rest of the scene is illuminated.

While I've done this for a good many years now, it still fascinates me to no end what can be done with Indigo.
The images below are for a commissioned piece. One is an Indigo rendering used to develop these LED lamps, the other one is a pretty bad photo with an iPhone 6 camera. There is nothing calibrated in my workflow, the rendering is straight off Indigo (no post processing) and the photo also has not gone through any image processing other than what the iPhone camera does on it's own, which butchers the saturated colors of the LED quite a bit.

Cool! Any reason for the Autodesk logo?
