hey kjk,

in your case using exit portals would speed up rendering a lot!
Another approach to get rid of noise that I like to use a lot is to render in 200% of final size and then do some light noise reduction and resize down to 100%. By this you keep all details, but get rid of more noise then rendering in 100% for the same time!

Another "issue" in your image is the DOF blur. Your scene don't seem to need some, but area in the front is blurry! DOF blurred parts need more samples to clear, so take care to export your scene in real Life measurements and check the cam to get rid of the Blur.

Last point is the "NoNo" to use pure white color, that slows rendering down a lot since light bounced in the room for ever. 80% white (204RGB) should be enough, and getting your walls white is in the end a tonemapping thing :)

to kjk: how many openings has the room to the outside? Use the exit portal? Use other lights in addition to the sun? The project is in meters? Maybe use too much bump on materials?
The last job I posted on this thread was 24 hours with a resolution of 1600x1300 on a i7.

thank you all !!

edit:
My model doesn't have exit portals. My mistake. I'll let you know if it works :)

thanks

+1 for dcm and Zom-B suggestions :) A little bit of exit portals and supersampling will make a huge difference, and limiting "pure white" albedo to 0.8 / 204 is very important.

At http://www.astro.washington.edu/users/s ... s/Spectra/ they give the albedo of a white piece of paper as 0.6 / 60%, and "black" paper as 0.07 / 7% - these are quite different from the 1.0 and 0.0 values one might be tempted to use!

still too noisy after 14h rendering on a PentiumE5300 and a Core 2 E7500

MNCR max is not a good option

Yes that's very noisy, crying for an inspection :)

Any chance that you could share the original scene file chiataimakro ? A blend or skp or so, depending on your host app. I guess some users do like the game of optimisation, they may help you... Myself am off my computer for a couple more days (and using Maya).

Or, pack the scene with Indigo into a PIGS file, but geometric checks may be harder to run. I'm sure there's something to do with the rendering time.

Finally got all my 3D stuff installed again. Just some fun to get used to all those hotkeys and shizzle.
