What's with the weird texture mapping?

Unless you meant it to be that way, your tile texture on the curved plane is screwed up. On the bottom the squares are all fine but as you start to go upwards its more like rectangles & lines than squares, and theres also a line at the bottom formed by the lines of squares that are not aligned properly.

Oh that.. Yeah, sketchup has trouble with texturing curved surfaces. You can project textures to avoid distortion, but they still would be treated as a different face and wouldn't line up correctly.

Neo0! Actually there is a way to map correctly cylindrical geometries (as the one you have on the curved part): go and find a tutorial in the SU manual!

neo0. do you actually know what the curved background in studio setups is for?

It is there to form an "infinite background" (see my picture of the Ring on the C4D documentation page).
I used a curved background there so you can't see where the scene "ends".
In addition, studio setups are usually for showing reflections of the emitters on the models to underline their shape, but to me it looks like you only used one emitter at all in your scene.
I would love to see a remake of your picture regarding that points.

A little excavator, inspired by Pibuz beautiful render. The big brother is still in progress. The render time was about 2 hours.

Haha that is really neat! :) I really like the pavement underneath too. Maybe add a few things to fill in on the left? maybe a sidewalk & a small fence + grass or something, make it look like its in a street or something.

Thanks, i wanted to create a small scene for it. But then I started on a different model to work. I found the small very sweet, so I posted it here. It`s a simple render.

Thanks for the feedback, PureSpider.. I'll probably have a new version out in a few days, but right now, im too exhausted from work to do anything besides eat, watch movies, and sleep. Personally, I don't like having reflections of my emitters in studio setups, because it detracts from the realism (don't get me wrong, I can see how underlining the shape of objects would be a good thing.) If im doing a scene with realistic light sources (like a lamp modeled from a real life one), then sure, but since im using real world objects, having square reflections would look odd imo, but that's just me..

Im actually using two light sources in my scene (100 watt emitters @ 5000 K)

WTF!! Better get used to real life, because that's how studios in real life work.
