Camox,

your rendering reminds of a great horror trash movie I saw saturday night … did you see it?
Cheers, David

The fog material is great, is fun to experiment around.

@ zeitmeister
Do you mean the movie with the bunker and the german zombies ?

@Pibuz
And here are a few views. Can you send the whole scene but I think with c4d you can not do much.

A quick clip map test. New to the forum, long time Indigo user.

Work - or render should I say, in progress.

Those look great! Love the grass.

Can you/someone give me some clues as to how to set up a clip map for making long grass like that using that scene as an example? I only ever do grass as a displacement with varied results.

The grass texture was made by scanning a patch of grass at 600 dpi, and then a clip map (which contains just black and white) was created from this. You have be quite careful to ensure that the edges of the clip map are smooth because it completely ruins the illusion when there are jaggies in the render.

As I use SketchUp, it was a case of creating a plane with the texture, and scaling to what I felt was appropriate, and then grouping it as a component.

To populate the ground with grass, I used the Fur plugin, which allows you to use custom components. To make the effect work better, instead of a flat ground plane, I made a ridged surface, and smoothed it.

The grass was then sprayed upon this. To fill the remaining gaps, I used the Fur plugin again to create 3D grass. So it is a bit of both 2D grass, and 3D.

Forgot to mention, the clip map and grass texture were blended together.

Hi tar! Hi all!
I'd like to share this, as it's something related to grass and stuff..

I recently downloaded the free xfrog trees, and I'm converting them to be usable in sketchup (quite heavy, I must say, but really good plants!). So this is sort of a test scene I'll use to render a sample image of the essence, as a memo for me
Grass is a patch I found some time ago, scattered around on a (flat) plane with the fur plugin.

Awesome tutorial, thanks!

Any chance of sharing your grass material? Looks really good.

I've been playing with the plugin and the Indigo grass texture - looks ok, not quite as good as yours, but better than a displacement map :D

Thanks for the comments, at your request I've uploaded the grass material to the database. I don't use packed materials much, so I'm not sure how exactly it works, so just tell me if it doesn't work as expected.

I had go at applying fog to the scene as well.... Quite noisy, after 11h, 163k samples/sec.

In general circumstances, is it possible to add SSS to grass of this type?
