I'm talking about the main camera itself, when you press num pad 0 to hook into it, and then grab it, you can't really control it the same way as you can in other 3D apps. I end up all over the place and tilted over when I rotate :(

anyway I did manage to get that scene into Blender after the 5th try, I don't know what went wrong, but I did fiddle with the OBJ import settings

see here - and I discovered a texture bug while I was at it :)

To rotate the camera, press R. Then you can constrain the rotation on whichever axis by pressing X, Y, or Z (vertical). If you press the key twice, it's rotated on the cameras local axis and not world axis.

These constraints work in translation (grab/move) too. press the key G,X,X and you will move the camera along it local X-axis.

If you press shift-X, Y or Z, you constrain to the other two axiseses. Press shift-Z and you can move the camera along the x and y axis-es. es.

Hope that helps.

wonders if these should be factory defaults....

managed to setup blender to sorta act and look like C4D with a view outliner on the right :)

not too hard to setup blenders window order :) - 2.5 release also will have better menus and programmable shortcuts, so that you can simply program similar shortcuts :D

The original Milk SSS values work pretty well for statues and ceramics even if they don't do milk so well :P

Try that in Maxwell or Fry

that vase looks cool :D - you should blend it with phong or diffuse, though, to get some nice more solid looking results :D

(and did you ever manage to make that milk SSS clean? Would be good to see, how it looks in the end ;))

I get funny results when mixing SSS and Diffuse/phong. Probably some bug in Indigo and bidirectional where you get these multi-coloured samples and bright spots that make the image go black....

Clean SSS....well it's just a matter of more CPU horsepower, rendering time and patience

Bah I have so many final renders to do, the backlog is piling up! :?

Playing around in Sketchup and got some more ideas for renders, but will probbaly wait till I get my Quad core system to render up a big final clean render, as speed is so slow even at these small sizes :(
Glass, SSS, Reflective phong and bump map = melting CPU

at least the exit portal helps.... gotta say there probably aren't too many renderers that could do justice to this type of scene with accuracy as well. There is some serious level of light interaction here! 8)

only Bidirectional MLT allows this scene to be rendered properly

that test really looks great :D
I guess, the upper one is the correct one?
I like that caustic refraction in the upper right orange sphere :D

bottom one is exactly the same as the top one, but with the white panels on the walls which really changes the mood, and water above the tiles.

The funny thing with the 2nd one is that you don't see the Sun, due to refraction, but you might later, as I find sometimes it takes a while for things to resolve. But it might be just the way it is, maybe that is the physically accurate result :)

Or an Indigo bug......?

We'll see I guess, I'm rendering a slightly larger version with better settings right now for longer.

I have another variation where the sun beam cuts through the middle of the purple slab, and you can really see the SSS in action then

maybe I can add some SSS dust/fog to really kill the rendering speed.....
