Ok, this started off in the 'Simple Renderings' thread, but thought I'd shuffle it over here as its more on topic.

So I've got this far. Aaaaaaand I can't think what to do next  Any suggestions? A rug, a coffee table? Maybe a TV off to the left hand side?

I think I might get rid of the 2nd chair, closest to the camera. Make the other one more of a feature chair and then have something else towards the foreground. But what!

Hey bosseye, great to see this progress in here!
Love the mood you created with this hdri.
As Zom-B already mentioned, I'd strongly recommend to use a texture in your exponent for the floor mat.
And the texture seems to be scaled too big, too lowres. This is why your bump looks so blurred.

Further I guess your armchairs are scaled a little too big. Compared to your room height, your room would be only 2.5m high... I think this wouldn't be suitable for such a noble roomdesign ;)

I really don't know!
The remaining space is really really big, so I think you have to cut the scene off a little, maybe an out-of-focus low library just in front of the camera will make the space smaller.. OR the back of a mega sofa, which would focus the attention on the central area, which will become sort of a living megacorner..The bookshelf on the left doesn't seem a great idea to me: its thickness would contrast with the glass windowdoor: I'd rather put it on the right, covering all the wall, and including the space for the TV set maybe, so the issue would be to mirror the concept of your current scene  Close to the tv/megabookshelf could be one single chair, so the scene in global would be more about sort of a megaliving/megareading-corner.

Sorry to have used mega so much, but the room is so BIG!

Aha, yes - I've not got round to working on this yet. I've never played with the Exponent settings before, so a bit of fiddling and testing required.

@ Mor4us - whoops, chairs are a touch too large. Room height is 3m, height to the chair seat is 0.6m which is too high  I'll scale them down a bit.

@ Pibuz - some good suggestions, thanks. I quite like the idea of a MEGA bookcase covering the entire right hand wall behind the chair. Perhaps and occasional table with some books - make it a reading corner. Left hand side I'll have to think about....

Details, details.. work on the smaller things first before adding anything else. It would help a lot if you put some detail into the windows; framing, rubber strip, sliding rails etc.

I should also add, just because the space is big, doesn't mean you have to fill it. Think of an activity that could happen in the space, and work on recreating that. :)

The great Pete Guthrie linked that too, I saw recently. Great resource!
BTW, tar is right: me myself see an excellent painter's office if I close my eyes, instead of a living..
