Neoo's Work in Progress thread
Clean white futuristic look is my goal here. It's a little hard to see because of the contrast but there are groups of couches next to the window.

Re: Observation room
Why exactly do you open a new thread for every semi-stage of the SAME project?

Re: Observation room
Yes Neo I think you need to put all these in one thread - lets say this one ok?
otherwise a forum admin, like me, will either move them or delete them.
I'm a lazy forum admin guy so guess which one I might choose
So from now on this is the official Neo work in progress thread OK?

The interior scene is on another computer, so I decided to some more work on the ship.
I don't like the material so far. It's looks too plasticy. I am using a pic of a very large ship (almost half a millions tons) as a reference

Afaik the Paint is a (cheap) way to protect the Ship hull from getting rusty.
Should be quite some waste of money to paint a Spaceship as big like this ^^
No oxidation is space possible btw

Unless somehow you go through a nebula with oxygen in it? maybe?Zom-B wrote:Afaik the Paint is a (cheap) way to protect the Ship hull from getting rusty.

In any case I agree on the idea that painting a spaceship is rather pointless, not only because of the whole rust issue but also because well you're not gonna see it from the outside that often.
If you look at reference photos from shows like Star Trek, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, etc most often the only painting you'll see on the hull of the spaceship is the name of it, the rest being just bare metal. The difference in color between them usually amounts to the metal they're made out of and not because of the paint.

I wish you could tell indigo that your scene is in space and then it would render it with a bunch of stars of random brightness. Maybe even place it in the solar system and have it illuminated by the sun and indigo would automatically calculate the position of the sun with the date you give it. Something like that.
Re: Neoo's Work in Progress thread
In the spirit of higher standards, I threw out the old design and started fresh. I don't know. It lookes a little too plain for my tastes.
I divided the ship into two different parts for a more functional feel. The first is a a docking area with many smaller bays (given the ships size, they would be a bit hard to see). The second is the engines. I intentionally made them proportionally larger to give it a more functional look again. If the ship was 500 miles long, it would basically weigh 180 trillion tons.

Such a big ship deserves some pretty big elevators

Hey neo0., is it possible you took some "inspiration" from Black Prophecy with your previous (and current?) ship design?

Honestly? Its way too big. I don't think I've ever seen an elevator that big - even in high pedestrian volume areas like subways or airports.neo0. wrote:Such a big ship deserves some pretty big elevators
Spaceships can be huge but the human used stuff needs to be relatively human sized I think.
Just my 2 cents worth

If you need to move a lot of people vertically, it's more efficient to use many reasonably sized elevators than few gigantic ones. Same goes to spaceships: there's absolutely no sense in making a 500 miles long ship, when you could build hundreds of smaller (though still huge) ships with less effort. And you would also get more windows for your passengers.
Do a favor to yourself and to us, rethink your concept from ground up. Think of your spaceship as a city: Manhattan has 1,5 million inhabitants, is 21 km long, and looks cool. A flying Manhattan would look awesome (with Central Park as a huge domed greenhouse providing food and recreation...), and a few hundred flying manhattans on their way to a distant nebula with thousands of smaller ships crisscrossing the space in between would look even more awesome. A flying State of Colorado looks just plain boring.
