How to make diffuse transparency

Post by galinette » Sat Feb 06, 2010 8:31 am

I would like to modelize a lamp like that : http://www.monbeaubeton.com/media/galerie/5bfd.jpg

My problem is to make the transluescent wrapping material. One idea would be using an tube with some thickness, and apply a SSS material. However, this will be very slow, especially if I want to light the entire room like that...

It would be much more optimal to modelize it by a zero thickness object (just a surface), and to use a material similar to diffuse, but that is able to diffuse on both sides. Or a phong, that reflects part of the light back, but diffuses on both sides. It would allow correct results with very few overhead.

I do not think this is currently possible. Do you have this planned?

It would also, for instance, allow nice rendering of tree leaves, without using SSS.
