OK you don't say what 3D software your using or the exporter but I'll try and explain but this is for using with Blender/Blendigo but should be similar to any exporter your using
First using the material editor either create or download a material

- 1:Press the download button
2: enter a search word for material
3: press the download button - DownloadMaterial.JPG (65.82 KiB) Viewed 5546 times
after you have test rendered the material and you want to save it and use it in your render then

- 1: Press the save button and set the save location
2: Give the material a name
3: choose whether a .igm or .pigm is saved ( will explain later)
4: press the save button - save.material.JPG (94.31 KiB) Viewed 5546 times
Now if your using blender then give your model a material, in this case I named it gold, and then in the Blendigo exporter go to the material tab. If not selected then choose your material from the drop-down box.

- 1: Materials Tab
2: Select your Blender material
3: Choose External from the material type
4:select your material by clicking the button with '...' - blender.JPG (74.96 KiB) Viewed 5545 times
Then just render. I think all the other exporters will be similar to this.
The differences between the file types, .igm and .pigm, are whether they contain image files for textures, bump maps, etc. If they do then saving them as .pigms will include those images in the file. Basically it creates a .zip file with a .pigm filetype. You can't use a .pigm directly from the exporter. you will need to unpack itt. There hope that helps.

It sounds like you are wondering if you can add a downloaded material to the SkIndigo preset materials. This can't be done in the current version.
To use a downloaded material there are two ways:
1) Load the IGM/PIGM material using the 'Import' button
2) Link the IGM/PIGM material by changing your material type to 'Linked IGM' and then browsing for the material you downloaded.
