Re: Velvet shader (Passionated)
Oh wow, that last one is truly killer. What are the render times? Can one use textures in the diffuse channel?
Re: Velvet shader (Passionated)
superb!
Re: Velvet shader (Passionated)
Thanks a lot, sometimes coded shaders look great when they are drafts and lose their edge when formalized; I nearly lost this one in the process of changing the threads shape.
It should be possible to add a texture slot for threads colour, I'm considering the option since I teased you with car seats ^^ yes I want to make it happen.

delicious stuff, thank you!

Re: Velvet shader (Passionated)
Thank YOU, now I feel useful
I like it in this material that one can pick odious colour and have it look alright with the relevant Balance setting
It ranges between satin and velvet looks approximately.
Questions/requests welcome... to discussion

I think that while using a black substrate for the preview is dramatizing the effect, pure black should not be used in production (unless if you are tring to do a "Carbon Nanotubes Used To Create Darkest Black In The World" material - youtube).Zalevskiy wrote:delicious stuff, thank you!
My mistake !

Re: Velvet shader (Passionated)
In general, seek the shortest hair length possible that does the trick for you.
It's still a shading hack requiring some taming. Longer hairs will stress more on geometry normals.

Re: Velvet shader (Passionated)
hmmmm.... looks so tasty in the preview, but I don't buy the renders... reminds me of roger rabbit in its cartoonish style- no offence CTZn
I love your materials, and had a long relationship with the "old" shader going on, not too sure about the new one.. perhaps it's just the color. I'll have to test it myself!

Re: Velvet shader (Passionated)
No offense taken Polinalkrimizei; sometimes the magic gets lost in the process, I can feel that then going further is a struggle :/ Also this is not really a detailed shader, but I need to release something or I'll keep cutting hairs in four !
Thanks contegufo by the way, you got it right !
Zalevskiy, of course your settings are perfect for the sketchy look you achieved, I was fooled by the coloured floor sorry.
