Paint Reproduction from Swatches

Post by Youn » Wed May 27, 2015 4:11 am

I'm painting the rooms in my house and trying to use Indigo to sample paint colours before buying samples. Yes, I realize testing in real is best practice, but I'm really curious about learning this renderer to see how close to real it can get.

Does anyone have experience reproducing paint colours based on manufacturer color swatches? I recently found this website for finding RGB values:

http://www.easyrgb.com/index.php?X=SEEK#Result

I may use Sherwin Williams paint, which also include RGB values on their website.
Example: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeown ... ails&p=PS0

I understand anything above 80% brightness is not good, so does that mean I multiple all these values by 0.8? When I do, it seems the colours look much too de-saturated, so I feel something is not right!?

Also, what are some close IOR/Exponent phong values for reflective-ness: flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, high-gloss... or should I use a different shader!?

I hope to recreate a room in my house with as-close-as-possible lighting conditions to see just how accurate I can get, but if someone has done this before with confidence I'd love to learn from that experience.

I use this :)

The best would be asking L*a*b* values to the manufacturer, or Pantone/RAL codes whose L*a*b* values may be found in tables. Then use an online color converter to get sRGB values
