Brick material problem (from Material Database)
Hello everyone,
I'm seeking help to figure what is going wrong with this material. When i download the material and preview it on Indigo, it's all distorted and not looking like what it's suppose to be. I haven't touched any setting.
Thank you all and kind regards.
Alejandro

Wow, that looks like a dozen of pork chops stacked on top of each other.
Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
Kill it with fire!
It looks like the displacement value is too large, needs to be made 10x smaller.

Stacked pork chops... LOL!
I brought down the displacement (tried various settings) with no success...
Thank you anyway.
Regards,
Alejandro

Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
just set the b parameter on the displacement texture to .0025 instead of .025
Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
Alejandro this works fine with the 'b' set to 0.0005 (see below test) you will probably have to subdivide the preview sphere & base to get this result tho - use the 'pick object' tool (make sure the property editor is open) click on the sphere and then in the 'geometry' section click on the little arrow to get into it's properties. I set subdivisions to 3 for both the sphere and base in this way.
You may run into this issue with textures from the DB that are large - as the preview sphere is only 10 x 10cm - in the real world a single brick is more than double this... so the materials may be saved with values which render correctly at full real world scale, however the person who made the material has had to alter the values (sometimes a lot!) to get it to look correct on the preview scene.
The diffuse map on this material need de-saturated quite a lot IMO

Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
Is there any way to control the saturation from within Indigo?
Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
With the "c" value? (offset)
Less than 0 mean saturate something...
and more than 0 looks desaturate
I do not know what kind of pixel transformation is it.

Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
Sup guys!
Can't believe it... I do a test render after reading Bubs advice (thank you very much Bubs by the way) and it came out very good with the brick sticking out about 1/2" from the mortar joint. (see attached Jpeg)
Then try renderng on an actual house i modeled and no luck; lines are straight at brick corners.
Then come back to the test render that worked fine and the displacement is gone... I give up...
And trying to save the texture doesn't work... Comes back to original settings. Frustated with ths material right now... >:o(

Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
Does your house model have subdivision on & soften smooth so the corners disappear?
Also, be careful with the mapping of the texture... you won't be able to just paint it around the corner, you need to position the texture so that the corners look correct, before you export

Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
Hello Bubs,
Yes subdivisions on and soften smooth around 90.
The thing is that i came back to the test model (the Jpeg i just sent) rendered it again just so i can look at materials settings and no more displacement on the brick... Gone... When i play with the B and C settings all it does is that it distorts the image verticals (much like camera field of view in Sketchup). Will work on it again this week-end. This is a tedious task to get displacements to work like you want... Thank you.

Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
give a little offset to the displacement, one or two cm. that will push the corner outside and alter the sharp angle somewhat.
obsolete asset
Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
Can you give us the nature of the polygons themselves?
If you add a "multi-sub-object" (2x the same material) to the front, and the left side, you can obtain a strange stuff with the displacement process.
If you add a different smoothing group also.
And of course, if your UV map is not correctly assigned, you are not able to obtain something like you want.

Re: Brick material problem (from Material Database)
Hello guys! First I would like to wish you all a happy new year.
Finally got the brick material working like it's supposed to with the displacement.
The problem was with the mesh settings. I had subdivisions settings on my component instead of the actual faces.
Glad this is solved.
Thank you and kind regards.
