Material Preview Background Grid - a usable material?

Post by chris255 » Sat Aug 27, 2011 10:04 pm

Hello all,

I'm fully prepared to be lambasted if this turns out to be a stupid question, but I don't think it is:

I'm trying to get my hands on the material used in all of indigo's material previews. You know the one: white with a grey lines demarcating 10 cm grids. Is this material available for download?

I would love to be able to use this as a filler in tests. Tried looking for it on the material database but no joy. Any help would be met with adulation and nice things being said all around.

Hi Chris,

I uploaded the matetial for you to the database (it's just a simple diffuse with a grid texture).
Please keep in mind that, since it is just a texture, the grid will not necessarily correspond to 10cm in your scene, it all depends on how you map the texture.

Cheers!

I just made a simple procedural grid that requires no UV (but the axis are aligned on world XYZ coordinates)

Procedural XYZ grid with 1mm, 1cm and 10cm pitch
It's a 3d texture in world space.

Nice one Etienne !

You can use a JPG like the attached as texture (for a 10cm square) to achive the effect.
