Thank you Soup :D

1 question when uploading materials to MDB,
is it ok if i give full link to where material properties is based on,
or but because of spam probably better would be to edit like:

from
http://refractiveindex.info/
http://minerals.gps.caltech.edu/FILES/V ... tz/rose.mt

to
refractiveindex info
minerals gps caltech edu FILES Visible quartz rose mt

-----------------

The material is glossy transparent with absorption layer transmittance texture and subsurface scattering.
Anyway i had diffuse transmission data, not 100% sure if i calculated absorption right (visually it looked ok)
2nt column from:
http://minerals.gps.caltech.edu/FILES/V ... tz/rose.mt
would be X
and absorption = LOG(1/(1-X))

And Because measured sample thickness wasn't given
i take from http://minerals.gps.caltech.edu/FILES/V ... z/rose.gif
@ 500 nm abs = 0,636
but my calculated abs @ 500 nm from data file = 0,4153536
=> 0,636/0,4153536*Absorption*100

:) But i like more lighter Rose Quartz so i divide abs values

26 materials that use measured data.
Rose Quartz scattering down to 400 to spice it up a bit.

WOW your renders are soo beautiful

I must say some of the materials i made look very different from some gemstones that were in MDB before i uploaded some of theme there. The default previews looked very same for example Emerald's, Topaz's, Amethyst's. Your preview gives much better overview i must say especially for the really dark gemstones. On default preview Italy Andradite and Brazil Greenish-yellow Chrysoberyl looked like the same.
I haven't uploaded some black looking on preview scene, allthow on photos they look nice,
the very dark like: Thailand Ruby, Afghanistan Dark Green tourmaline, USA Georga lazulite, Island Blue Cobaltian Spinel.

But the dark gems look really good in small size
Like on that photo:

That's a nice material reference 8) How big are these gems?

1cm diameter (4 carat) on the diamond cut.
Most of these would probably look better on different cut gems, but was too lazy to model different ones.

Thanks! :) Actually, you don't have to model them 8)
