Using render foreground alpha in skindigo

Post by neo0. » Thu Jul 23, 2009 7:16 am

Is there any special way to enable it in 1.1.6?

Uhm, I assumed it was pretty clear in my request, but I was looking for something to render a transparent background and still leave me with a usable render in the process. Whats the point of turning everything white? :?

LOL. the way it works now is by creating a mask which you can use in your favorite image editor to remove the background from your render.

That is so cool :) I'll have to check if blendigo has it if not request it. im glad i come over here XD

I dont think indigo has a no background option does it? im just asking out of curiosity because i like the mast solution better, just because you could tweak the mask in photoshop and so you have more flexibility than a straight transparent .png

Oh gee, McGyver.. What about your actual scene..? What possible purpose does turning it all white serve? Are you supposed to remove that part with an image editor too?

He just said it....A mask in photoshop uses the grayscale value of the image pixels to determine the transparency of another layer. Black = Transparent, White = Opaque.

Your scene = white, therefore it will still be visible with the mask applied
The background = black, therefore transparent with a mask

Uhm, when was the last time you saw a great render that was made out of white objects? :?

What would have been wrong with rendering to a gif file or another format that supports alpha?

Read my post again...this option will create a MASK which you apply on your normal render to take out the background. Like I said the background part on the mask will be black and so with the mask on the render it will become transparent, however your scene will remain untouched.

Neo0: as a reference for an alpha render.

It is from blender but it reveals what an alpha render is. What's not covered by an object (even if transparent) turns white.
