SkIndigo 1.1.X WIP Tutorials (Updated Jan 19)

I will be posting updated SkIndigo tutorials for Indigo test versions 1.1.X in this thread.

Again, these tutorials are for the current UNSTABLE release of Indigo. If you want tutorials for SkIndigo 1.0.9 you are out of luck. The most recent official SkIndigo tutorials (for version 0.9) can be found in this thread: http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/fo ... 17&start=0. Although much of the information is obsolete, I think they are still somewhat useful.

All tutorials are in SKP format. Please let me know of any errors so I can fix them before official release.

You will probably get a crash when you try to render the 'Getting Started' tutorial. There seems to be a bug with Indigo or SkIndigo for diffuse transmitters (i.e. the curtains). I am looking into it.

I am currently updating the 'Advanced Features' tutorial and will post it when it is ready.

EDIT: I am still not finished the 'Advanced Features' tutorial but I thought I would post it anyway as a WIP.

Cheers,
Whaat

Thank you very much whaat!
I've got some minor tutorials to write down in my to do list. If you agree, i'll post them, as soon as possible..

That'd be cool, as far as I'm concerned.

I'd quite like to do a couple of Indigo renders as soon as I finish what I'm working on now, but I'm far too sketchy on layer blending, displacement and the use of externally referenced textures ... so I'm gonna wait 'til some of you get a few tuts out there.

I think you are more than qualified to post your tutorials! I would love to see them.

Solo,

keep in mind that these tutorials are for the current test release of SkIndigo and Indigo.

These releases are pretty stable so I recommend using them.

Download Indigo 1.1.16 from the Indigo News and Announcements Forum and Download SkIndigo 1.1.15 from the SketchUp forum.

I am glad you are giving Indigo a try. I am curious to see what someone of your skills can do with it.

As you probably have noticed, documentation and tutorials are pretty weak around here, but the forums are extremely helpful and you can probably get an answer for any of your problems within minutes.

Cheers,
Whaat

To create an IES light:
1) Choose the 'Layer' that the material will emit.
2) Check the 'IES Path' box.
3) Browse for a valid IES file by clicking the '..' button.

explain step 1 please. 'Layer'?

i know what layers are just not in this context? i can't seem to get to step 2

ok sorry i found it under emitter attributes, but i'm still not sure what the layers are all about?

P.S i have a couple of IES files but they won't work (something about 90deg. angles?) could you possibly post one that works or include it in the tut.zip?

BTW, i have skindigo115 & indigo116, when i try to render the advanced tut file i get this
