The water is a plane that is crumpled ( I modelled it in Cheetah3d than exported it as an 3ds file.) The material is a standard glass material. There's no thickness, but I didn't need the refraction.
The plane has lots of polygons, but I'll try to post the .skp file when I get back to work.

edit: OK. Here's the FILE

Hi Peer

Great looking water! Do you think a decent bump map to single plane glass material would be able to create a similar effect?
It would probably create a much calmer water, but i guess that would work fine in most cases?

as long as your angle of sight isn't too flat, It should give the same result...

if it doesn't have thickness, it can't be a glass material... it must have IoR 1

...I'm guessing a single plane specular material would take less time to render than a specular with thickness and IOR. I'm also guessing water with thickness would look more realistic?

hmm... about Speed: I'm not surte about that...
about relism: definately.

IoR 1 more or less means invisibility, btw... it then is Air, more or less...
actually, it's vacuum

Thank you Peter!!!!!!!

I tried pool water with a bump map and for most shots the veiwing angle was too low and the water just looked blotchy. That was using glass with thickness!

We need some smart cookie to devise a way to surface water and windows with a single plane material to avoid the refractive and time consumption that glass can lead to!

Cheers all!!! Richard
