Displacement problem

Post by Lal-O » Sat Oct 03, 2015 5:42 am

Hi there guys
I have a little problem and i hope you can help me :) .
Nothing happens when apply displacement to a single Skp plane...nothing is displaced, only the whole surface moves up from the origin.
Before i open this new topic i looked and searched in the forum and i found a post that describes what possibly i am doing wrong and in the end the problem got solved ..but did't work for me. I've also watched the Waat Displacement tuutorial video ..but no luck :(

I suppose you have to subivide the plane. But the screenshot shows that this would be done during export of skindigo...
Hm. What happens if you subdive your plane in SketchUp?

Hi zeitmeister!.Thx for your reply.

Well..It is not supposed Skindigo do that automatically? :? ( the surface subdivision ) .I mean ...by changing the MAX subdivids in the " Edit active mesh " Submenu ? .
The Max subdivids in the next samples is set in 20 (Only to see what happen ).I have read that 4 is enough most of the time...However i made a test with the same surface but this time with subdivisions :

Hi.
A single polygon with a subdivision of 4 gives only 256 polygons (too few for a displacement of this characteristics). Also the displacement value is of 0.5 meters (here you have the "up" movement of the plane, then maybe works). And take in account that the texture has a range in grey scale of 256 steps of grey (maybe the picture is too clamped and the amount of displacement is lower than you expected).

Got Solved !
All i had to do was to make the plane grouped -without any subdivision- and INSIDE THE GROUP select all ( ctrl+a ),right click , select " active mesh " and then set the " Max subdivisions " with 10 value and ...Voila!

You don't have to "select all" when you're working INSIDE a group.
