Light and specular problem

Post by abecrow » Mon Apr 29, 2013 11:19 am

Hello,
I have a little problem in Sketchup and indigo
On my scene, sunlight does not pass (or very little) through the glass on the final render.

The image below shows the scene in SketchUp with the light from the windows, and the render.

The glass is composed of a single face, without any thickness. The material is a specular by default, with IOR 1.5 to its medium.

Why the light does not pass? Would I missed an option?

Thank you.

PS: Sorry for my english

And that is the problem!
Always use closed volumes for specular materials!!!
With your setup, everything behind that single sided glass plane will be rendered as it is glass, your full room is the glass medium, because you have not closed that medium!

A thin Box with normals facing outside should do the trick!

Also if your glass isn't visible (reflections of interior etc.) in your renders, then simply discard it and use exit protal for way faster rendering :)

Thank you for your answer,

Well I tested with a thickness of 4mm and it gives the same result as the rendered image in my first post on this subject.

I looked at the side of the exit portal function. Tested, but inconclusive result. However, looking at the tutorial on the indigo site, he said that I should take the bi-directional mode for rendering, while the base, I am in path tracing.

I retested rendering bi-directional mode without the exit portal function. And it works.

I lose GPU-accelerated, but at least it works.

Thank you again.
