After reading through the forum and several failed attempts to create some realistic pool water (or water in general) I hope someone can push me into the right direction... though this probably was asked many times before
What I did so far:
-modeled a containern in sketchup
-modeled the water intersecting the container walls about 1mm
-tried to use the materials from the database like pool water and rippled water
I couldn't achiev any ripples or waves at all. Do I need to add a bump map or displacement map to get the waves? Or do I have to model the surface of the water in sketchup?
I'm using Indigo RT.

use it as a displacement for best results in closer shots. Bump will do well otherwise, normal maps would make a nice compromise.
The database waters describes only the water medium, there is no surface detail involved most often.

Ah, ok! Thanks for the map and for the hints. Now I get some waves. Unfortunately they are far too small. Is there also a button for scaling the displacement map? Or do i have to scale the map with PS?
Again some very basic question, but I just can't find the button...

Hi,
You can multiply the values of any texture by changing the "B" (scale) texture parameter in skindigo

The "B" parameter gives me the wave height or the size of the displacement, not the size overall. I would like to change the waves in length and width, and because there is no diffuse texture in Sketchup for my water, I can't scale the displacement map.

Yes, you can always define a texture in sketchup even if diffuse is disabled in skindigo. This will texture-map all the indigo textures.

..Lape..how did you get it to work...
I've never been able to render water pool caustics at all! Please give me a hand...
EDIT: disabling GPU contribution actually makes it a little easier..
but still caustics are far from being calculated! damn
RE-EDIT: ..maybe I'm only a little too impatient..
Something is kinda going on under there... mmmmmhh... time to update my hardware?
BTW: what were your render settings? Supersample, resolution, glass acceleration on or off, method...

Small tips: the stronger the relief, the shorther the focus plane for caustics. Test it on a sloppy bottom. A single surface is enough for water ponds, provided that they intersect entirely.

uuuuhhh, I, as an Indigo-noob should teach a long time Indigo user how to achieve pool caustics...

Let me see what you can teach me (I know it is a lot):
WHERE do i find this damn double sided material for Skindigo??? I've tried to create realistic leaves for my plants, but I was not very successful using a blend material. And where is the "diffuse transmitter" material in SkIndigo? Or is this just some diffuse material with opacity set up in Sketchup?

Sorry Lape: is that just a plane, the geometry you attached the displacing map to?

No, it's a cube intersecting the pool walls about 1mm.

And the same material is attached to all the other faces?
I saw I have samw results when using a much more simple specular mat for the non-visible faces, in order to spare some memory since the diaplacement iterations can be quite heavy to carry, RAM wise.. I'll post my try later thanks a lot mate!
