Complex UV mapping

Post by bubs » Tue Nov 13, 2012 11:37 pm

Hi guys,

I decided to have a first go at some 'proper' modelling in sketchup. I've had a go at Eileen Gray's Transat Chair using Whaat's Artisan plugin (a cheeky free trial!), which I found to be great. I used sculpting tools to make the cushions more realistic looking, and whilst I still see sub-division issues in the render (please feel free to help out here too!) my main issue was with the UV mapping, which, in SketchUp on this kind of surface, is truly awful. I had intended using a slightly distressed / aged leather on the cushions, but the mapping was so bad I had to opt for a very plain texture (with too much bump!) to hide this.

Anybody got any tips / fixes to texture map complex forms like this?

Thanks in advance as always.

Thanks a million guys! super help as ever. I'm baking a re-do with the texture I had wanted to use all nicely mapped! (well almost perfect!)

I'll post the results.
