Subdivision question
Subdivision question
Hi,
I modeled a wine glass for another forum and wonder why the glass is not as smooth as expected. I used subdivision up to 6 but didn't get a smooth result. Any ideas what I am doing wrong in this case?
Thanky for your help!

Re: Subdivision question
You could smooth it with increasing segments of the circle you used for path. Thats the modeling solution, I am not sure how to do it with just indigo. Hope I helped a lil bit
Re: Subdivision question
You could also try modelling the wine glass with quads. Should help.
Re: Subdivision question
I don't think SkIndigo exports quads unfortunately
Re: Subdivision question
To go a bit into details about the issue with triangles here, is that some vertices have 4 incoming edges when others got 8. This creates a tension you will not get rid of without editing the geometry.
It could be triangles if all diagonals had the same direction.

Re: Subdivision question
There are some possibilities, but I used Artisan for subdivision and therefore have no influence on the triangles (maybe Whaat have an idea?!)lycium wrote:I don't think SkIndigo exports quads unfortunately
I tried some different subdivisions but until now I was not able to pruduce an equal-incoming-edges version (e.g. 6/4 edges): I wonder why I didn't noticed this problem before...CTZn wrote:To go a bit into details about the issue with triangles here, is that some vertices have 4 incoming edges when others got 8. Thank you! I will let it cook another night and will upload it nearly without firefliesOnoSendai wrote:Sweet render!

Wow! Nice!
Maybe just some bubbles missing? Instancing lots of spheres should not make the scene too heavy

I will have a look at this. How do I add bubbles? Only little spheres in the beer or do they need a special material, normal direction, ...?galinette wrote:Wow! Nice!

Re: Subdivision question
It's Friday, so I suggest:
1. Get a beer
2. Look at bubbles while drinking beer
3. Go home (carefully if you've "studied" a few)
4. Model bubbles

Re: Subdivision question
Ehy Cotty! How did you solve the tri-mesh issue? How did you model that glass, in the end?cotty wrote:New version with quad mesh...
