Most probably, the rendering method is Bidirectional with MLT and Architectural Glass Acceleration.

Not sure if Glass Acceleration existed then, but it's BiDir + MLT. Lighting setup is a simple environment map balanced with interior mesh lights.

I read the article awhile ago when I stumbled across it on ronen's site. Thanks for sharing that!

What's the story behing architectural glass acceleration? Wasn't it not working as intended for awhile?

The making of is from Aug 2010. The glass acceleration feature was still in development at that time.

I'm understanding Fruitiger's question differently than you seemingly did, Headroom :)

As an Indigo feature the Glass Acceleration worked flawlessly since its release date. Back then it was only for bidir though, PT support came at a later time. Exporters exposed the feature at different paces.

Note that it is not designed to work with smoothed glass shapes but glass panes, hence the "architectural" adjective.
