August - September 2009 Competition

Hi all,
This competition is a very special one.
First off, there are the prizes:

1st prize: Indigo 2.0 license, Indigo T-shirt, forum badge
2nd prize: Indigo T-shirt, forum badge
3rd prize: forum badge

Secondly, this competition is to find some great example scenes to include with the Indigo distribution.
We're going to remove all the rather boring current example scenes, and replace them with some really nice scenes that show off the power and realism of Indigo.
All three winning scenes will be included in subsequent Indigo distributions.



The Topic

There is no particular topic this competition, the render must only show off the power and realism of Indigo.



General rules

- Entries should be submitted by the 30th of September

- Images must be rendered with Indigo.

- The choice of modelling and image processing software is open.

- You can not post work which is already in our gallery

- Only one submission per user.

- The zipped / packed Indigo scene must be no more than 1200 KB, including all textures, meshes, etc..

- Any artwork not created by yourself should be mentioned so it can be taken into account during voting.

- The scene should contain no assets copyrighted by 3rd parties, unless rights have been secured to redistribute such assets.

- Competition winners must consent to sending Glare Tech. their packed scene, including all required assets, so that it can be included in the Indigo distribution, and must consent to allowing Glare Tech to distribute the scene. To achieve this, the Winners must apply the 'Create Commons with attribution' license to their scene. See http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

- Competition winners must send the original scene in their 3D modelling package to Glare Tech, for internal testing purposes.



Submit your entry with the following information:

Nickname: <your nickname>

Version of Indigo used: <Indigo version>

Rendering time / CPU's: <time rendered and on how many CPU's>

List of tools used (and external artwork, with links):
<blender, 3DS Max, photoshop, etc...>

Yes, the limit is 500KB.
This is because there will be three scenes packed with the Indigo distribution, so we figured 1.5MB would be a good amount to increase the download size by.

1 question :

500 KB =< all textures , default.igs ,default-mats.xml , default-meshs.xml

and blend file ?
and render images ?
zip and/or rar ?

Just a suggestion, but perhaps you could make the "Example Scenes" a seperate download on the download page, and then we could have at least 5MB (A 15 MB file with 3 scenes isn't bad).

Just to make it clear, and to see if I got it right:
500 KB is the size of the packed exported scene only guys, texture folder included.

That means:
1. scene.igs
2. scene-settings.igs
3. scene_TX folder (which includes nk data and all the stuff).
Pack all together and stay under 500 KB.

Render image: excluded.
Native modeling program file: excluded.
Optional IGI file: excluded.

All the files may be requested from Glare Technologies to the winners after the competition is over, so simply don't delete them. Glare will eventually use the material for sharing/tutorial pourposes.

That's what I understood.

No, I'm pretty sure that the .pigs file needs to be less than 500kb (Which I think is ridiculously small), and the .pigs includes all of the needed files (Textures, materials, .igs file), in the equivalent of a .zip archive.

Yeah I think a 500Kb size limit is rather small...

Okay - we changed it to 1200kb, you're right 500kb is a bit small.

You only need to post your final renders here, once we've chosen the winner, you'll need to send us the .pigs and original model (.blend, .skup, etc) so that we can make tutorials around it as some stage (and also so we can test our in development exporters).
