competition forum dead?

Post by mrCarnivore » Thu Aug 16, 2007 10:55 pm

Hey, since radiance left, this forum got a little abandoned. :-(
At least in my case it's partly because this forum is so far down the page that I rarely scroll down there...

I think it's very interesting to have move competitions. Is there anyone (probably a moderator) who want to set up a new challenge every now and then?

Also what do you others think about this?

I second that! We need more new competition!
We can start a new one. Please post you suggestion for new competition here. Why not?!

An optical rig, may it be a microscope, magnifier or abstract one. The object itself is secondary, what's important is how you reveal the optical effect. You can use mirrors, lenses and mediums, plus whatever u want (camera effects and such).

Like this one ?

That's a very good idea - and it also is a great way to test Indigos powers ^^

how about an animation? perhaps this could be a longer running secondary competition due to enourmous rendertimes needed ;)

i like the optical system idea (i've already modelled a microscope, and fibre optics, and lightboxes :) edit: and lenses ... )

how about something else that takes advantage of the things indigo does nicely:
- organic forms (SSS)
- something involving textured emitters/diffuse transmitters ?

textured emitters can be used for optical systems, as well as diffuse transmitters....

...as well as SSS (although I don't have an idea, just right now)

I.e. you could make a projector, with a textured emitter behind a lens, projecting on a white wall :D (no idea, how that would come out, though)

Okay, so this never happened... Having a monthly competition again would be fun.
