Hey Yves, it seems that the .obj model has some objects with non-standard characters in their names, which is throwing off exporting from Blender. It's not a huge problem, just need to go through and rename the objects, but it'd be worthwhile to change that for the .obj model so people aren't caught unawares.

Oh I just remembered that the scene does have glass in the windows. It will render much faster when you remove the glass and the difference is often not even noticeable.

The native Maya OBJ plugin is choking:

// Error: line 0: OBJ file line 7114227: index out of range for face creation. //

And the 3ds file is... triangulated, of course.
obsolete asset

Is there no proper obj import plugin for Maya? :)

Updated obj files with ascii only object names.

Also added the reduced obj file that was used for creating the SketchUp file.

Something is not quite right here... this is how the model looks after I import it (full res obj).

And this is the reduced obj model after importing. The old models didn't look this crazy. :(

Ah, forgot one important step before saving the obj from the original scene. Reuploading :)

Thanks :). Tell me, are you using a sun+sky lamp only in your blue scene? I'm such a rookie when it comes to interior rendering, and I thought yours had realistic lighting.

Yes, I used Indigo's sun+sky (the old sun+sky to be exact).

There are a few things to watch out for (I guess I should put these in the first post :) ) :

- Use exit portals when rendering this scene with sun+sky (or an environment map).

- When rendering with sun+sky (or an environment map), make sure you remove the glass from the windows. Sunlight(or generally small emitters) through glass is a tricky problem for unbiased renderers. Glass acceleration helps, but it will render much faster without the glass and the visual difference is usually not noticable.
Note that if you want to keep the glass, exit portals are not a good choice (as vl_dm has already noticed).

Also, here's a camera flash shot of my updated scene (Again, I am not competing, because I am staff. This is just for fun):

Updated (and this time hopefully properly working) obj is available now.

No luck for me, it's the exact same line popping again. At this point the object causing the error is named "bianco". With 4 UVs it must be a subdivided plane.

I think it might be safer to generate the obj file from blender. There are as many proper OBJ plugins than interpretations resulting but this one should cope well.

By the way, thank you Impulse for a great scene !

As for the 3ds file as imported by Maya (using bonusTools), "bianco" is among the few mangled meshes with "zylin1", 3 5 and 7.

"bianco" has many small faces, including 8 lamina faces in the tv shelf block. The exporter may be able to overlook something about those ?

No biggie tho. Oh, the linear scale is not specified into the obj file d;
