The Rules:

- No 3rd party render engines (Indigo Renderer/RT must be used).
- No changes to the architecure allowed.
- Chairs, lamps, tables, or any other detail in the furnishing may be changed.
- Maximum of 3 final renderings. Camera angles are yours to choose.
- Final images must be submitted no later than the 6th of September. (post them here)
- If any post processing is done on the final images, the original images must be uploaded as well.
- Since the question came up: of course you can enter the competiton with the demo/trial version of Indigo.

About the scene:

Scene is provided by Heiko Schmidt / Impulse: http://www.impulse-arts.org/

Use of the scene data, in whole or in part, is restricted to non-commercial use only. Some of the models are freely available on the internet, and not subject to this restriction, however please contact us regarding their use if you are unsure.

Some rendering tips for this scene:

- When rendering with sun+sky (or an environment map), make sure you remove the glass from the windows. Sunlight(or generally small emitters) through glass is a tricky problem for unbiased renderers. Glass acceleration helps, but it will render much faster without the glass and the visual difference is usually not noticable.

- Use exit portals when rendering this scene with sun+sky (or an environment map).
Note that if you want to keep the glass, exit portals are not a good choice (it becomes a tricky problem as well).

All files were compressed using 7-zip.

I'm in ;)

EDIT: To what extent is 'No changes to the architecure allowed.' defined? I mean, does that just mean the layout / design of the space? The frames and crown molding around the column are fair play? What about detailing / modification to the wall / ceiling surfaces?

Not trying to be a dick, just trying to see where the line is drawn ;)

Just added downloads in some formats and added the prizes so far (we still have some open communication here and there so maybe there will be more :) ).

In other words: It's on.

Hm, good question. I guess everything you mentioned should be OK, just make sure the you can still tell it's the same room :)

On the topic of a SketchUp version:

The original scene is... well... much too complicated for SketchUp. In the end I managed to get a simplified version of the scene into SketchUp. I tried several methods with varying success and I will upload the scene that seems to be (at least to me) the most successful result.

:D
SketchUp is a weird beast indeed...
I'll download the scene in the next few days and see what you've been so good to make with the Su version.
Probably we sketchuppers will rather use imported obj, or we will lose some important detailing!

I've been thinking a lot to this competition, since I saw the announcement!
I think I've come up with an interesting idea, and I hope I can find some time to spend on it and show it to you guys. The unique topic is this one? are we allowed to post some WIPs? There is a specific way to post the final imges (eg. a new topic in the finished work section or similar)?
