I still have no explanation, but I could fix the issue by Mesh > Combine (all objects), then Mesh > Separate back. So that's more of Maya/MtI related, but maybe the cause is a compatibility issue with objs from MoI or something external. I have no real clue in fact...

I did model it in MoI and import it into Maya. That may be it.

Ah wait, that didn't fix it. What I did also was to scale the model up, trying again hold on.

Sorry, right now I can't reproduce the fix but it worked
I combined/scaled 15x up (gsf 0.01)/rotated to lay down/ moved up a bit/Separated/added floor...
Or I thought it was fixed but it wasn't...

Fixed: MoI to Maya to Indigo issue: you need to triangulate the mesh in Maya, many n-gons happening there
The error becomes obvious when you render the ipod body alone !
... and then normal issues going on (
edit objects 5 & 8 have reversed normals)...
well, or scale, dunno. Reset smooth angle to 30 for all abjects and scaled up a bit did the trick:

Dougal, something I remember now: forward axis for instances (from particle Instancer) is +x, would that make a difference in your code ?

re: particles
yes, it might. In fact the code gives me access to particle Aim direction (which I have set to be derived from Velocity, as it seems to be what I want) and particle Up direction. I think the problem mostly is that I don't really know how to use these vectors correctly.

As a first step, try your emitter scene again, but orient the original cone toward X and see... That's how originals are supposed to be oriented for Instancers, I reminded that abruptly... For that specific scene the Up axis can remain constant.
...
edit: Now that I think a bit about it, that doesn't make much sense regarding the actual issue, I'm mixing everything up

Just figured out that instancing was broken with the new naming convention; what would make more sense, correcting from your procedure or instancing procedure ? If the later, could you point me to the command to get your meshes name plz ?

CTZn:
I already fixed that, get the latest SVN code.
I've also managed to prevent the annoying "File exists, overwrite?" message in the object module.

Awesome - that was slightly annoying... Got some Maya training DVDs coming, by the way.... I payed for them with money I saved up from selling models on TurboSquid

Oh nice ! Stupid me, I knew there was a new svn release but didn't check it out
PhrO ?
May I ask you the editors of these DVD's ? Beware with cheap ones, I mean better to stick with reknowned stuff, Gnomon school not to mention a classical reference. Of course the (formerly) Alias DVD's are best in term of pedagogy, but not the cheapest by the way

I purchased "Introduction to Modeling in Maya" from 3dlinks.com. I also hope to find a book or two under the tree for me =) I did see some others that were quite expensive, but I am not looking to sell a kidney or anything...

REV 183
further small tweaks to the objects module:
added setState switches to object module for better exporting of constrained and rigged models.
