Subdivision surface CD4 vs Indigo

Post by contegufo » Thu May 12, 2016 3:21 am

Hi

Question; having to increase the mesh density is more appropriate to the "subdivide" command in C4D or Indigo tag "subdivision".
Tank you.

Indigos subdivision is faster in general.

using Indigo SubDiv you end up with faster export because of smaller basemesh (nice for some animations)
Also Indigo can do view dependent subdiv that is smart and can limit the memory usage and maximizing visual output.
The Pixel Treshold is here the maximum size of a subdived polygone regarding the internal render resolution (before Super Sampling)

In some cases when you have a very none-uniform mesh to subdivide Indigo can cause some texture stretching, in these case use C4Ds approach..

Alternatives are: Cloth surface or Hyper NURBS, subdivision surfaces. Direct verification of the mesh density.
