Indigo Renderer 2.4.4 Beta
Posted: Sun Jun 06, 2010 6:49 pm
Hi all,
Included in this beta release are all the new GUI and core changes so far, except for GPU acceleration support which will be released to the beta testing group shortly. There have been a great many changes, a lot of very new and untested stuff, so this is really a beta release - not recommended for production environments! The biggest changes are to be found in the GUI and single directional path tracing modes.
Single directional path tracing is now much more efficient, and should be preferred over bidirectional in simple illumination settings - reasonably large area lights and limited caustics. In such scenes the rate of convergence is a big improvement over bi-bidirectional, and GPU acceleration further improves this.
The GUI has had a facelift, sporting fantastic new icons made by Godzilla and a number of usability improvements, added features and bugfixes. We've added the ability to easily toggle among the four rendering modes in the GUI, so you can quickly see which is most effective for your scene.
Colour noise has been vastly reduced in this build, at the cost of a small (less than 10%) performance hit. Triangle meshes now use substantially less memory, saving and loading of large IGI files is fixed... see the changelog below for more details, even this list isn't entirely complete!
The BVH accelerator is often faster than kD trees now, especially in exterior scenes. Interior scenes can still be faster with kD trees sometimes, though you might want to tell your exporter to use BVH via the triangle count threshold setting to experiment.
Your testing is greatly appreciated, thanks
Windows 32 bit build:
IndigoRenderer_2.4.4_Setup.exe
Windows 64 bit build:
IndigoRenderer_x64_2.4.4_Setup.exe
Mac OSX (32 and 64 bit) build:
indigo.osx.2.4.4_6.zip
Changelog:
2.4.4
* CUDA, OpenCL support (not exposed in this build)
* Indigo components now launch using below normal priority by default
* Many GUI improvements
* BVH, motion blur much faster now, many other localised performance increases
* Lower memory usage for triangle meshes
* Much less colour noise
* Much faster and slightly more accurate sampling
* Much more efficient single directional path tracing
* Fixed saving and loading of large (multi-gigabyte) IGI files
* Fixed image update affecting colour balance
