The RANCH renderfarm now supports Indigo!
Thought I'd post my one and only ranch experiment (tried to upload a bigger, more complicated file, but my unstable internet connection didn't let me - so I had to settle for something slightly smaller here). Still, I think the ranch rendered this one pretty amazingly. I particularly liked the smooth, subtle reflections in the shadowy bits upstairs, which stayed stubbornly grainy in the version I rendered myself earlier.
EDIT: Forgive the dodgy post-prod work...

Hi,Macrob wrote:Hi! Here is some problem:
I use indigo_x64_linux_v1.0.9_2 and these are the results: 15 min RANCH vs. 15 min my own little box.
Somehow it is not as clean as the spp promise and the meshlight is gone. The only lightsource remaining is an exr.
I used the .igs from the .vui I sent to you, so that is not the problem.
your Macrob3 scene is interesting because it is very very strange On some of our nodes the partial render looks like the "bad" one (black, one shadow), when on others it looks like the good one (two shadows)... and all our nodes are identical! Also it spends nearly 3 minutes scrolling hundreds of "degenerate triangles" message before the actual render begins. It would be interesting if you could share it with others. Maybe Nick could tell us what is going on in this scene.

So, the RANCH for Indigo is now officially operational and in production. The RANCH web site metapage now lists Indigo as an officially supported product

Use the proper channels then... one send ranchfarm a mail with a given igm that conforms to a default name like previewmaterial.igm, named after the material from preview scene. This file would be included in the preview scene so it would be a matter of copying it to the right place and make a bat run. With the current flow of materials it shouldn't be a problem. In the end it would then be sent back and when the user put the image in the gallery he would refer Ranch farm or it could appear watermarked on the preview scene...OnoSendai wrote:I don't think that's practical PureSpider, setting up something like that takes quite a bit of work.
I couldn't upload this one before the end of the beta-testing period, so I let it run today using the Ranch's paying service. I must say I'm impressed. This was a really difficult scene to render on my quad (it took two days and wasn't very clean in the end).
I let it run for only 15min and it reached an SPP of 2400 (resolution was 2400x1800 and is downsampled here to 1024x768). I could have run it longer as there's still a bit of noise (but I got to watch my wallet - 'twas just a test). Anyway, the noise is still very acceptable fur such a complex scene (about 2m polys, multiple glass surfaces, lots of reflections, zillions of alpha maps, sun-behind-glass, etc.) and the cost very reasonable (I ended up paying about $70).
Anyone who's selling their images should definitely consider this, I think!
My only small gripe is the denoised png (which the Ranch says is a free extra anyway). I think the denoising process is very strong and tends to blur the image too much.

I'd like to say that the potential "black screen" problems with some tonemapped PNG should be a thing of the past now. We have slightly changed our merging process to make it completely compatible with the automated tonemapper in Indigo, so it should work in any case now.
Fred
btw we will probably use the very nice scene from Bertrand above for our Indigo benchmark.

A great scene BbB as always, and as everybody mentioned before!
Only thing this baby needs to be a über-super-benchmark-scene is some Displacement for the ground of the "pool",
also some lightsource setup to get caustics on it, and you've got a killer Scene!
(I know actually the ranch only uses Indigo 1.0.9, so no Displacement -.- )
Now we want to see a night version XD
