i get similar problems when comparing t7 and t8 renders. esp with light intensity/direction. an example is this...

 When did you do that test? It's great!
Even if t8 is quite overexposured, it looks superior, especially, where you have that volumetric shadow of the small ball inside the big one :D

thanks :)
yeah, that's really a great test for the four things, fog, participating media, precedence and caughy_b_coeff :D

since 09.t8 I had some strange issue that (some of) my renderings become totally black after getting displayed accurate first in the indigo viewport

Can somebody confirm this?

I'll try to do a reduced scene that has this issue tonight...

Yes I did...

Only Using linear tonemapping could bright up such scenes...
(only older Violet versions can tonemap this igi's!)

Also the IGI is about 1/4 of the one without this issue (21.9MB vs. 5.49MB), what means there are less color information (!!?).

This Issue seems to be light or material thing, because this scene rendered fine before I added some materials and lights...

only rgb lights are used, and 2 rgb light texture emitters.... but I got this issue with another scene that uses only BlackBody for lightning!

Here the zipped igi file (25 min rendering!).

Hmm... you can see it in the "rendering" above the grey plane sorounded by lot of light bulbs.

The Problem is, that both meshes got the same light settings
So why do the got different brighntness? I did some testing:

RGB Light 1 1 1 - Efficacy Scale: Power drawn 95, Overall luminous efficacy 14

No Background lightning, Reinhard 3/1/10, D65

@ZomB:

I believe that is correct result: the larger surface area with the same light output as the smaller surface area appears darker per pixel of the output image.

your light power difference could be because the planes have a much greater surface area than the bulbs around them.

power\bigger surface area=less output per unit area. and vice versa.

The efficacy scale doesn't give the relative energy amount / meter but the absolute one! It will get divided through the area.
To get similar results, you need to re-multiply/-divide the values with the area.

can't get the metadata dump to work - Indigo keeps spitting an error

like this?

G:\Renderers\INDIGO\indigo_09_test4\indigo.exe --dumpmetadata G:\Renderers\INDIGO\indigo_09_test4\renders\im1191900795.png
