I think it is good idea. This is mix of noise and denoised image. I think the mixed image looks best - more naturaly.
I see denoising rather as a way to "finish" a long render and not such noisy images. Your example does well with uniform noise, but there are other more complex scenes with a bunch of different lightsources and specular material that have aren't.

Here a quick example with 1000spp and SS2:

This Denoise-function could be great and timesaving for rendered simulations (MSPhysis in SketchUp).
Will it become possible to activate Denoise in SkIndigo?
Thanks

If one was to do an animation how could we setup such a scene?

The denoiser is NOT temporal stable!
So in Animations it could cause strange wandering patchy artifacts over frames...

It will probably be a while before I try it out but I like that the devs are keeping up on major features. Was just watching videos from siggraph seems all the "big" names have implemented some version, intel, nvidia, or proprietary, of noise reduction to cut render times. It is great to see that Indigo has the feature on the way.

I'm just starting to get organized to do limited use product videos using digital approximations of sculptures and don't want to risk moving to the beta and breaking all the work the devs did to get keyframe animation working for me in skindigo.

@pixie & @Faust07 - As for video noise reduction and rendered frames I've had some success with Davinici Resolve's temporal noise reduction (available i think in both the free & paid version) & skindigo frame sequence output (its adjustable and found in the same section as the color grading tools). my samples are linked in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13493&p=143280#p143280

Thanks for pushing forward devs!

Please, take care with aperture diffraction CPU for the next. Thanks for all the effort!

dear developers, if possible, please add the checkbox denoiser for cinema 4d exporter, thanks

I'm so excited this has finally been added. I tested it out and it works great. Before its truly usable though we need exporters that can turn denoising on and off from the start. Besides that GREAT WORK. I was checking out THEA considering a to switch for the denoising. I'm glad I won't have to bother anymore.

Well, syou just need to add optimize for denoising since you don't want it to be denoising all the time

will be in the next c4d plugin, with some other nice stuff.

I start tests with animation , all this small indirect noise gone :D

2K - zero nosie - 30sek GPU + Denoise ( only beauty - no optimization)

Denoise algorithm work only with no filter / box filter ?
I read on github about this : https://github.com/OpenImageDenoise/oidn/issues/10

"Yes, correlation between pixels is likely causing the issue. But the denoiser does seem to work well with at least some pixel filters (e.g. Blackman-Harris + Sobol sampler + unidirectional path tracer in LuxCoreRender, Gaussian in Blender Cycles)"

In Arnold 4 works only with box filter , In Indigo - when use GPU works good but when i switch to CPU denoise don't work ( looks like GPU override filter ? )

Next problem - when i save .exr , and process file with denoise - don't work - but in this problem i have idea why is that.
