My system becomes really unresponsive while Indigo is rendering even the simplest of scenes.

Can you try turning off the OpenGL preview (just close the widget) and see if that helps?

No, that didn't help. Ram used is 130 MB of 16000 according to the activity, so it's not that either. Processor (4 core i7) is at 750 % though. I'm on a Mac if that's of any use.

I realised that I should have posted this in the 3.8.6 thread, because that's the version I'm running. I upgraded directly from 3.8.4 to 3.8.6, so the problem might have been introduced either in 3.8.5 or 3.8.6. I have't had this problem before.

What OS X version are you using?

are you using a wacom tablet, by any chance?
my tablet response gets super sluggish when running anything CPU-intensive ever since I've been on Mavericks. the mouse works fine. it seems to be something wrong with the tablet driver compatibility.
anyway, I don't notice anything different about this new build. I'm on OSX 10.9.3

It seems that the issue is gone now. Might have had too little space on the SDD.
